| Thanks for the replys. I figured it out, It has been 4 months since her last heat, and I think she is in heat although I have not seen any blood. I went to my daughters house today and she has an intact male and he was doing a lot of sniffing too. So now I have no idea where she is in her cycle, So what do I do. do I put them together again in two days? Do I let them mate as long as she will stand? Or should I let them mate a couple more times and then keep them apart? |

| I'd let go, they know what they are doing. I've been at this for a long time, you can't trust that heat cycles come at certain times. I was lucky if My one female came in once a year. I have another one that comes in 3-4 times a year, epecially if I haven't bred her that year! Ya just never know. But they know what's going on, so I just let them do what comes naturally!

| Your vet can do a smear test to help find where she is in her cycle & her most fertile days. |

| Say, Rachel, do you have any idea how much it costs to have the vet do that test? I could call my vet and ask but I'm such a forgetful person that I'd forget by the time they open. LOL This way if someone posts an answer, it pops up in my email box. LOL Thanks for any info. Sylvia |

| No I dont. I just found some info about that during some research. Of coarse theres always that office visit fee usually $20-$35 then any tests are extra. If you are considering breeding I would have her checked head 2 toe ears, eyes, trachea (collapsed), knees (patellas, mammary gland (breasts), hve her anal glands expelled, stool test ed/wormed. Any shots updated & the smear. So you know she is healthy & ready. It shouldnt be to bad & worth it to catch any problems that may interere w/breeding & having healthy pups. Just call the vet & get a total cost. Good Luck. |

Every time I took mine in he tested her and every time her said she was in heat and said the male will let you know when she is and he was letting me know. But It was still very often. | |

| Hmmm, do you suppose any vet would allow you to do the swab yourself and then have it tested? That would save an office visit. Sylvia |

| Well the call should be free so just call & ask, sometimes 1 office will & others wont, so you will have to call each & see. I give my dog its shots & bordetella (kennel cough vac) & wormer, pretty much anything I can I do myself. Not because I El'cheapo but we have 2 pink stroller 6 carriers, tons of clothes, royal canine, petzlife, revolution, etc- whats it matter if the vet gives the shot or me as long as I know how...I called 4 vets in my area only 1 would sell me the meds for me to administer the others want the office visit fee or nothin. But you will just have to call & ask, get a price & decide whats best for you. |
