I can't tell you 100% when a stud can physically perform and when they should perform-- I heard many different answers to each question and have found that most of it is more a preferance or opinion that differs from breeder to breeder. Likewise, a stud's 'readiness' if you will, differs from dog to dog. You also have to make sure you give the male time to fully mature before you can even tell if he should be used as a stud--his 'ability' I'm sure will develop long before that. Personally, I waited until our stud was a little more than 1 1/2 years to use him. I've heard 2 years, I've heard 1 year. Again, an answer I'm sure you will find is based on opinion and preferance. For both of our female, we bred on the 8th, 9th, and 11th day of her heat, with one tie each day--both time she produced 4 healthy pups, all very close to the same size. Good luck!

If he's young, his sperm regenerates much faster than an older male, There's no real need to breed them every day from what I understand every other day is sufficient during the optimum days.

When we breed our girls, we let them 'hook-up' twice over a 3 day period. For instance, if we get them together on a Monday, we wait to do it again on Wednesday. It's always worked. (Just one time on each of those days.) I like the males to be at least 1 1/2 yrs old. Note: And they usually throw 4 pups. So don't make the mistake of thinking if you breed them more often, you'll get more pups. Good luck!

thank goodness.....my two (just as everyone, i am sure) are part of my family. they are not crated and sleep in the bed w me and my husband. i stud out kirby like the above mentioned. BUT....my two are doing it three times a day. i was getting worried. this will be her last (this will be her 2nd litter and i cannot keep them away from each other to do every other heat) so after this, i will have her spay.
