| Luvs Lulu Donating Member | You know people think that because you get an AKC or CKC dog it's bound to be a super dog but it just goes to show (JMO) that ACK is just another money mill. Five years ago I purchased a puppy from a breeder that was on their approved ACK list. Well the dog ended up with a luxating patella and after $5500 worth of Ortho Surger to correct we found out that the problem was there when he was born and that they tried to fix it and sold Hobbs like that. Unfortunately those backwater hill billies had done a poor job and it never helped. Anyhow I contacted AKC which I now call ACK and told them about their preferred breeder and wanted to send along the proof from the Animal Hospital here in NYC so they could see I wasn't making it up. Essentially they told me that they dont' govern the breeders they just let them honestly register their litters and record the lineages and have nothing to do with health issues. DUH...if I am telling you a breeder on your recommended list is a bit shifty I would have thought maybe they would have looked at them a bit more and maybe reconsidered having them on their list...no such luck. The lady told me I was on my own. I didn't give a rats arse about them being my champion I had only hoped to help anyone buying in the future. It didn't matter to me because I work at a Huge Law firm and had attorney's to do the work of getting me satisfaction (which I am proud to say my vigilence got me) I wasn't trying to get ACK to help me with that end. So to make a long story short I tend to just do my homework about the breeder and do my best to find out if the dog is pure and not mixed. That is satisfactory for me.

| I think Baby is great no matter the pedigree. I don't think you were posting it for approval of any kind, just to share. I think some breeders call this type of ped a "pet" pedigree. Would you believe I know someone with two champions who's sire has what is referred to as a "pet" pedigree? I will admit that I love an awesome pedigree and I research and look for certain attributes, but I also realize there are pet breeders out there who probably have healthier lines than some who show. I'll always defend the passionate, dedicated hobby breeder; many people would never get to experience the pure joy of having a yorkie in their life if not for them. I am also an advocate for show breeders who are dedicated and have put in years of hard work. To me, they are both valuable to our breed. I do show my yorkies but for several years didn't because of having a young child...so I totally understand both sides of the pole. Have you ever heard of someone having a completely healthy line and bringing in a line from a show kennel and then WHAM genetic problems arising? It has happened. It all comes down to as a breeder, do you TRULY know your line, can you vouch for it other than just saying "oh I have met the parents and grandparents". Baby is a cutie and she's champ in her own right! Last edited by ButterflyYorkie; 01-03-2007 at 09:53 PM. |

| Lambriar is a big broker. (Not a breeder) I recently was going to purchase a maltese puppy from a so-called breeder who was selling him direct and told so many lies that it was outrageous. First, the pup was about 18 weeks old and the reason they had him to sell still (according to her) was that they had sold him to a lady for more then what they were currently asking but didnt feel like it was a good home for him so took him back. In the next breath she mentions they sell puppies to Lambriar which is a broker who only takes the good ones?? Lambriar didnt take him cause he was too small?? Now if they were so concerned about the home this little guy ended up in why would they sell to a broker? I insisted on taking him to my vet to be checked out before I made a decision. My vet looked at his shot records, etc and wondered why he had missed a parvo vaccination after 12 weeks. This pup had a runny stool while I was looking at him and that coupled with his gums being lighter then the vet liked to see them were a couple of red flags as well. The pup was so sweet and I wanted him so bad. He was just a little guy but when they wouldnt give me even a 3 day guarantee against parvo I had to walk away. I still wonder about this little one. 3 days wouldnt have been long enough as it takes about 7 days for symtoms to appear as I understand it but since he had those symptoms (which could have also been related to stress and not parvo) already and since he stole my heart from the moment I saw him I was willing to take a chance that he would be ok or could be treated but when they said no to even 3 days (excuse was he could get it in my home in that lenght of time) I had to let him go. I knew better and know better but still these little do tug at our heart strings. I have been looking for a maltese pup and he wasnt even the quality I was looking for but there was "just something about him." |
