OT - but a question for breeders? I was looking on the internet at puppies (favorite pass time other than reading here on YT). I found the cutiest Frenchie puppy, she was all white and it says she is hearing impaired. I called the breeder, I thought since I have 2 other small dogs (yorkie & Lhasa), that I could give her a good home. I asked the price of her and he told me that her brothers and sisters were selling for $2500, but he would take $2000 for her. Of course, I can't afford that. I was just wondering if one of your puppies were hearing impaired if you would still charge that much or try and find the best home possible and a lower price. I wasn't asking for her to be free, but less than a $1000. Just wondering what others thought. Maybe I am wrong, I don't breed. Thanks, Stacie

deaf Can you say DEAF, not hearing impaired..hearing impaired could mean the dog has some hearing, but white Frenchies , like white Boxers are usually deaf. If I had a deaf Yorkie, I would give it away to a person who would love and care for it..$2000, give me a break. It will no doubt be a wonderful pet, but that is a serious fault to deal with..

"Hearing Impaired" is what the puppies "label" under her picture said. When I called the breeder he said that they didn't even know she was deaf until she was by herself at one time. I have been doing some reading on this and it seems that you shouldn't breed a dog that has produced a deaf puppy. I just wonder if he will. Is this right? I couldn't believe that he said he wanted $2000 for her. Thanks, Stacie

pup Any knowledgeable breeder who reads has to know a pure white dog in thsoe breeds are usually deaf..it is common knowledge. Unfortunately many are put down and the proper colors are kept. I know a Boxer breeder in MD who said it was very undesirable to get them in litters, so she never repeated certain breeding pairs. I saw a deaf Dalmation on Animal Planet..it was a resuce and they had tons of problems training her. I hate to say to avoid a handicaped dog like this, but it takes a special owner to train them and do what is best for them..and they should be FREE!!!!! ot a nomimal fee. Just my poinion.

I couldn't agree more!!! He should charge a very small fee at most, but concentrate on finding that best home for that puppy! $2000 for a deaf puppy, that irks me!

That is just crazy to charge that much for a deaf dog. I agree with all of you.

I just keep thinking about this puppy. I would call the breeder back, but I don't want to sound like I am wanting a free puppy. What would you all do? If I do call him back what would I say, I don't want to offend him. I just think he is going to have a really hard time finding a home for that puppy, especially for $2000. I am going to try and post the picture of her, look how cute she is. It says she is 10wks old. Stacie

OMG he is sooo cute! I don't blame you for wanting to be his new mommy... I would probably let the breeder know that he should call you if he changes his mind and explain what a good home you could provide for him. Maybe after he is not able to sell him at that price he will realize you are right. Good luck!

| Frenchies I LOVE french bulldogs...my family has a frenchie, she is now 10 years old and she has been the best pet...she is now hearing impaired (still hears high pitches) and it is really sad...but the $2000 is unheard of!!! Especially being deaf!! My parents only paid $800 for Lucy and she is of champion bloodline...etc...this breeder thinks of dollar signs with her pups for sure

Run, don't walk, in the opposite direction. I am wondering if this puppy is not also visually impaired. Just has an odd look in her eye. That breeder should be so happy that a concerned person wants her. I bought a boy to use as stud. I paid $750.00 for him. At age 8 months, he started to limp. I took him straight away to the vet. We had to anesthetize him to do dental and x-rays. As YorkieRose had already told me, he did have LCP. It is probably genetic so I gave him away to a vet tech, paid for the surgery for his hip and considered a job well done. Of course I am out several hundred dollars, but I just could not put a family thru a situation that was destined for heartache if I bred him and he passed his condition on. Any responsible breeder should know and do the right thing by the puppies they are responsible for bringing into this world..

I still haven't called the breeder back. I can't figure out what to say that won't offend him. I couldn't tell anything about his eyes, but there is a puppy on the website that has eyes that look different. I am not an expert, so I don't know. What do you all think?

| I think that the puppy is very cute, but I would be very weary/cautious.

Have you called yet? That puppy is darling! Just call and say you are willing to pay x amount of dollars (whatever you are willing to pay); remind him the dog is deaf, will need a very good home which you are willing to provide. If he says no, just ask him to keep your number on hand in case he changes his mind (doesnt sell the pup for the $2000). Just be nice, be willing to accept no and realize you have nothing to lose by at least calling. | |

Actually I emailed the breeder. I just let him know that I was not willing to pay $2000, for a dog that was deaf. I also told him that I wasn't looking for a free dog either. That I was really interested in giving her a great home. So, if he isn't able to find her a home to give me a call. I didn't know what to offer him for her. What do you all think? Thanks for your replies so far! Stacie

Yes, the breeder told me she is deaf. He also listed it under her picture on the website. I haven't heard from him. Stacie
