advice about my dogs lack of interest please hi all my girl dog came into heat on the 30th september , but at the moment my boy dog is not interested in her when we first get up in the morning he makes an attempt to mate with her she stands but then starts to play with him and he if left frustrated and this is the only time he tries she keeps flirting and for the rest of the day he ignores her, is time running out for a mating ? or is she not smelling so good to him yet? could you please tell me how many days into her heat she should mate thanks

| They usually say that around the 10th day after she first comes in heat is the day to start breeding them. You may need to assist them. She sounds like she is flagging, flirting and lifting her tail to one side, this all means she is ready to accept the male. However, some females won't hold still long enough and you may have to hold her still so that he would be able to mate with her. This is probably the best way to do it as she may move once they tied and could drag the male around and actually hurt him by doing so. Here is a good link that tells you what days to breed them and how you can assist them. http://www.debbiejensen.com/mating.html

Do you leave them together all day? you should keep them seperated and just let them together maybe in the morning and evening, another thing is to give them a bit of privacy, maybe he doesn't like you looking

ok back again,Trixie sometimes has a longer heat than normal and she has been mated as late as 15 days. The last time Max had no interest in her until about the 13th day,he is a really good stud dog and knows when she is ovulating, maybe your lad knows the time is not right yet

thanks for all the advice maybe in the next few days he will fancy her a little more i have noticed that he is following here about today and licking her , congrats on your babies its wonderful when they are born isnt it, i have always taken my girls to be studded and have only got this boy in the last month he is 18months old and gorgeous has 14 champs in his pedigree including ozmillion and i know his babes will be beautiful , i gather sometimes it can take time to smell right to the boys, whenever i have taken my girls to a boy they hae mated on the 10th day no probs fingers crossed , i hope your babes and mumma remain in good health it always a bit scarey in the early days isnt it.

All dogs ovulate at different times during their cycle. Somehow the stud can sense when the time is right. I think you still could have a mating take place at this point in time. Hopefully, something will occur in the next 3 days. I have seen many males that like a little privacy, especially if they have been reprimanded for humping. With these males I watch from around the corner so once they are tied I can help keep everyone calm.
