ps - Gator - on the dogs (I just can't say the word mutt here) roaming the neighborhoods - yes - they do. My next door neighbors little MIX was made pregant by a dog that way - but again - that's not what that article was about and is probably only a portion of the problem with too many shelter dogs. I'm still laughing about being called political and thanks the replies - I guess this thread will get more attention than I expected now - I didn't really think that many people would read the article - now they will !

| The interesting fact that most don't realize...in bold Why is this happening in the United States today? The number one biggest contributor to the problem is the backyard breeder not the puppy mills.

But thanks for playing anyway. If you want to quickly identify a money hungry BYB, ask them how many pups they had to sell to buy their Porche. Lol...chances are, they'll have the best of everything, but their dogs won't.

| You know, it kind of makes me wonder when someone is THIS abrasive about a post of this type, what is it about the post that is threatening the person...If you are not a BYB..then you have nothing to worry about, right? So is that the problem? That you consider yourself to be a BYB therefore, this is personally insulting to you? Otherwise, not sure why you'd pipe up so defensively. As for "supply and demand"...Yes I think there is a surplus of yorkies. Ones who barely resemble the breed, have questionable health, and people who made them as described in the first post. The SHORTAGE if you could call it that is with nice quality healthy yorkies...and the more those who breed the poor quality dogs breed them, the busier Yorkie rescue is going to get. Quote:

and yes - unfortunately we ARE seeing far too many health issues with yorkies and it's really sad.....Some of the threads we see here are just heartbreaking...and we sure are seeing yorkies pop up everywhere now. I was on a Texas breeder site just a few minutes ago and I swear - the yorkies were not standard (and actually not as cute as they should be) & the prices were jacked up from just 6 months ago.

| Oh My goodness, so i bought my babies from backyard breeders. i bet most of us did according to what i have just read.i want to become a breeder with all right stuff and knowledge. I do understand that there is a standard for all breeds. i will try hard to understand but it is hard for me to except that your pup is better than mine because it ears stand up or it has better color or legs to short to tall.. i guess i will keep researching or better yet just rescue all the not good enough babies. Your post is good though thank you for not being rude about it
