Too Big To Be A Stud? Hello, I haven't posted here in a while but I'm back finally. I have a male Yorkie, Jake, that has turned out much larger than me or the breeder anticipated. Before I have him neutered, I was wondering if large yorkies can be good stud dogs for females that are larger as well. Jake will probably be about 12-13 pounds (or maybe more) full grown. I'm just being curiuos here....

Thanks. We actually have an appt. in the morning at 8:00 to have him neutered. I guess the "What If's" kicked in my mind and wanted to be sure I had made the right decision. I have a seven year old female, Jasmine, that weighs 7 pounds and she is with a breeder now breeding to a 4 pound stud. She had a false pregnancy the first go round so I decided to try it again. I by no means ever want her to accidentally hook up with Jake. I figured it would be easier on him with the surgery and her being away until Saturday. He can rest more that way because he won't have anyone to frolic with. I know I have made the right decision by neutering him. Thanks again!

stud Neuter your pet and love him forever...which I am sure you already do...why make more very oversized Yorkies on purpose. Where are you going to find 15/20 pound females..there are plenty of breeders who disregard the standard as it is...

I'm not a Breeder, but I think you made the right decision to have him neutered. You really wouldn't want him to hook up with your female. Best of luck with Jasmine.

Thanks. I love Jake with all my heart. He is my big teddy bear. I don't have to be too protective of him because of his size. I am still very panicky over my female yorkie because she is so fragile. Jake is a handful and dishes out whatever he gets. I LOVE HIM TO DEATH! So, we will be off to the vet. in the morning with no regrets. He has just started marking his territory in the house and I know it is time to do something. He also humps everything in sight (which I know might not change) and he was a little suspicous of Jasmine last week when she came in heat.
