I think it's great that everyone seems to have recovered from the shock that someone would actually do this.

I think it was probably just as disturbing to the poster when she read about it that she thought she could ask someone (a breeder) who had experience with this if it happens or not and what their thoughts were on it.

It's what I would have done. I've come to yorkietalk and learned a lot that I didn't know before, and wish I had known before I lost my Maxie. Now that I am about to get Alphy I'm sure I'll have more questions. But to be honest, I tend to lurk more then post for fear of receiving the same type of reaction if I ask what is considered to some a stupid or appalling question.

This has been the best resource that I have found though and spend more time here then on my work.

I know, or at least hope, that we all love yorkies and animals here, but we have had so many threads started in the past couple of weeks, that have been meant to stir controversy. This seemed to be one of those. I do apologize for jumping to conclusions, but it was very upsetting. I will try and keep an open mind next time.
That is a very classy response, Zeus' Mom!

I'm going with Alaskayorkie on this one, there needs to be a note before you read any posts in the breeder section, so that people who read them know what is going on and people who were upset about it (including me) would be informed about the thread. This way they might not want to even read it much less react. Also, it would give breeders a chance to honestly reply and share information.

JeanieK's post was posted in the Breeder section..it is the proper place to ask any breeding related question. I say, ask anything, then you will learn what is best. I would hate to see anyone afraid to ask a question..no matter how disturbing..how can you learn a better way or the right way...breeding can have some very unpleasant aspects, the average pet owner would be happier not knowing, believe me.

The thought of it just makes me sick. But If I was to read some thing so disturbing and wanted to know if this is the way that some breeders go about it. I too would of asked here too . I don't agree with it but would of asked too. It was just a question of someone who was wanting an answer too. It wasn't some thing she was doing and asked what they thought about it.

Default breeding

I was visiting a Doxie breeder once..she had a 3 week old pup with a neurological problem. She put it down right in front of me. There were two other hound breeders there and they never batted an eye. I thought I had "contained" myself, but she called me later and asked if it had upset me...I told her the vet could have done it so easily for about $30 (at that time)..infact you can take any dying animal to the animal shelter and they will put it down free of charge.
I used to do this for senior citizens who could not afford to pay the vet to put their dogs down. The people at the shelter were so kind, they wrapped the body in a nice plastic bag..I brought them to my home and buried them..some of my elderly friends lived in apartmemts and had no where to bury their companions...so there is never a reason to do it yourself IMO.

With all of the great resources available to breeders and pet owners, why would someone in their right mind do something so cruel? Sorry if people don't like the disagreeing posts in that thread, but maybe before people open a thread they should think about what kind of reactions they might get. They won't always be welcoming and positive. JMHO.

I agree that YT should be a place of learning. Any question should be treated honestly and fairly. Just because something is hard to read or know about is no excuse to be rude. The only dumb question is the unasked question imo. As much as I learn from this forum, I have had questions that I haven't asked due to fear of what some might think of me. I just keep hoping someone else will be brave enough to ask and then I will read the answers. That doesn't seem fair to me. Breeding is a tough job and there are some things that are ugly about it. More things about it are things of wonder and beauty, but there are still ugly things and we as breeders have the responsibility to know about them. I think the euthanisia question was asked honestly. I think we all know the clear answer now. I applaud the bravery it took to ask and I do not look down on you.

Thank you. It was posted in the breeder section, and if one wants to believe that all puppies come out cute, kissable, clean little balls of fur, then they shouldn't e lurking in that section. Then they will retain their beautiful fairy tale innocence. I was raised on a farm. I know the cruel hard facts of animal reproduction.

In this instance, I think it might have saved a lot of people some serious grief. How can you expect a person who dresses their doggie up in bows and dresses and totes them around in a baby carriage not to get upset at the thought of breeder euthanization?

I'm just saying not to be too quick to cricitize those who reacted with revulsion. They were discussing the issue honestly as well.

Default I want to applaud Jeannie

I was not on line when the original thread was going on, but I went back and read it after I saw this one.

Jeanie, I would like to congratulate you on your level-headnesses and your stick-to-it determination to have your question answered, despite the negativity turned against you in the first few pages. Lesser folk would have turned the proverbial tail and run like the wind. You kept your cool, continued to question, and did not answer an attack with an attack, nor did you disolve into a mush pile when faced with some of the nastier responses.

I am impressed, and will continue to read any further posts from you with interest!

It seems like that thread got better as JeanieK explained herself (good job, Jeanie.) At first, even I thought that she was a breeder who was actually considering doing this. But she was able to explain that she was just being curious about the issue. I for one am glad that she ASKED A QUESTION, because now she (and many others) know the answer. I 100% believe that she meant no harm, and was pretty shocked when I read the personal attacks against her.

I don't think that this is a good idea at all (no offense). The breeder section is a great resource to so many people whether they have been breeding for years or are just considering doing it. While those of us who frequent the site will know to go to the breeder forum, new members might not realize that it is even there. There are so many people who come to this site to help them decide whether to breed their dog, many for the wrong reasons, and with the help of the knowledgable breeders on here they are able to decide what is best for them and their dogs.

Again, no offense meant in my response, I just don't think that hiding the breeding section is the solution. Those who don't wish to read the breeding posts do not have to, but it should be readily available to those who do.

Most will need to remember this is a the BREEDING SECTION..IF you can't stomach it ..then maybe it's better to stay in the General Yorkie Discussion section.
I for one thought it was a good question and no one had the right to attack the poster of the question.
As a breeder I want to know the good and ugly of breeding .
Pat,(yorkierose) had the only humane answer.. I could see myself going.
So, how ever disgusting and unnecessary you may think the question was ..all new breeder need to know what to do if they were put in this situation.
