Robbie I am typing this just the way it is wrote in the User's Guide:

"ATTENTION BREEDERS! When pups are seperated from their dam, usually soon after weaning, put a unique identification on each pup. Later, after you register the litter and the AKC has assigned each pup a unique litter number, put that number on a tag and attach it to the pup's collar."

Oh wow, that does help and it clears things up. I need to send for that user's guide. Only thing is, I never put collars on puppies. Any suggestions?

I mean they're so small and even a cat collar wouldn't fit most even by 12 weeks. Hmmm, I've got to do some thinking here...LOL

Robbie I have started microchipping my puppies when they are weaned from their mama.. I do not like doing it at this young of an age, but one thing AKC is very picky about is ID on your dogs and your paperwork.. I than stick the microchip number on my litter paperwork next to their AKC number..

Also the above link will take you to the forms for "Dog Ownership And Breeding Records" form.. Make sure that you have one for each and every dog that you have registered through AKC, rather from your breeding or if you purchased from another breeder.. Make sure that it keep it up-to-date and accurate.. If you are inspected by AKC they will ask this, along with your litter paperwork for all your litters..

Well being that I am pro-microchipping (i have all but 2 of mine done now) I would have to say that that would be the answer. It isn't really something i would want to do at that young of an age, but i've got to do something and i want to abide by their standards and practices at all times. Today has really kept me on my toes! I do have tags for all of my dogs with their akc number on it, but rarely do they wear their collars. I guess if I were to be inspected before I get my last two chipped, I need to put those collars on the remaining two asap if a stranger knocks on my door! The akc inspector made rounds in Surry county recently which is 2 counties away from me. Thanks for the info!

Also I forgot to mention this: Make sure that your dogs are all microchipped or tattooed.. AKC will check and sure that you do!

I do have my binder with all the appropriate forms for each dog as well as my litter records and history of mating on each dog i own. I'm a very organized person when it comes to that. I was just really concerned about the identification of puppies which i wasn't current on. Again, I say thanks for the info!

Someone posted a while back about crocheting a little looped collar for her pups, using a different color yarn for each.

Would that work to solve the collar problem?
