| What exactly is a Top Line?? I've seen this mentioned a lot...that a dog has a Good top line. I tried the search, but haven't found a definition of it yet. I have a general idea of what it means but, Can someone explain to me what that is please? |

| A top line is the conformation of the dogs back. A good top line would be level from shoulders to butt. I am sure a breeder on here can explain it better. |

| Thanks Diva pup. That's kind of what I took it to mean. That the back is in a straight line.... I was just curious if it meant more than that. |

| Copied from Caroly Hensley's Judging interpretation of the standard The backline level. Note it does not say the back, nor does it say the spine, it states the backline with the height at the shoulder the same as at the rump. Unfortunately, this is many times achieved in the ring by a straight shoulder and tilted pelvis. Do not judge the toplines with the exhibitor on the floor holding the dog straight and pushed together, let the dog stand natural and look at the topline on the go around! . C has the correct topline. A is roached back, B is down in the shoulders. .
