Question about a breeder...

I'm ashamed to say that if your puppy was purchased from a pet store AND the breeder is from Kansas that it is probably a puppy mill baby. Kansas is one of the few states that actually protects puppy mills. I'm pretty sure that my Easter puppy is also a puppy mill baby. He was rehomed with us and his original owner got him in South East Kansas. I love him all the same, but I too worry about his health.

According to the USDA inspection of 6/1/2004 Betty Westhoff needed better ventilation in her West kennels, the smell of ammonia was high enough that it could be felt in your eyes and the flooring needed a cover so the puppies feet wouldn't fall through. There were 357 adult dogs on the premises, 39 weaned puppies and 108 puppies, which totals 504 dogs. If this doesn't sound like a puppy mill, then ??? what is it. Our beloved Yorkie, Jingles died at the age of 5 from a collapsed trachea. Betty Westhoff's name is on Jingle breeder papers. Collapsed trachea is genetic condition due to faulty breeding. Now I am going to start reporting her to every agency that I can and other places that will listen.She didn't evev get a slap on the wrist.

These puppy mill places get away with this because we, the consumer keep buying from them. If we don;t the cycle won't end.

I also have something else to post about the breeder , Betty Westhoff.When I bought my puppy I read his papers and his date of birth was 4/24/02. He was born in Kansas and his papers said he received shots on 6/19/02 so he was taken away from his mother before 2 months.

I can tell you that I have a female yorkshire named Buttons - she was bred by Betty Westhoff of Kansas. I have had my dog for about 8 years now and she has been healthy throughout. Does any one have a dog bred by her that is doing well? I would love to know..Allykathart

The dog in your picture looks alot like my yorkie -Buttons that was bred from Betty Westhoff of Kansas. My yorkie is 8 years old. Is the breeder of your dog listed as Betty Westhoff?

This thread is old, but it's always good to remind people not to buy from petstores ! I'm sure with the 500 dogs she has, some pups will be healthy.

Again, it's not only about the health of the puppy, we have to think about where the puppies come from. Supporting pet stores only adds to the suffering of all the mom's and dad's of these puppies being kept in small cages, never to be able to get out and play or have human contact.

That's exactly 8 weeks, and some states you can sell them as young as 6 weeks.

I just came across this thread when I was googling "Betty Westhoff" Last night I was visiting my grandparents and they bought a Pomeranian 5 years ago from a couple who didn't say where they had gotten the Pom from. When I was there last night we were going through his medical records, and we came across the paperwork they got with him, it turns out he came from Betty Westhoff, he is AKC registered, but he was actually sold from the broker "BJ and Guys"

It is so sad reading more about betty online, I read a report from 2004 where she had over 350 dogs, was USDA inspected, I don't want to call her a puppy mill but she had many problems with her facilities that needed to be fixed from what the report was saying, she had over 100 puppies, some sickly.

My grandparents Pomeranian's behavior and health is understandable now, he has horrible luxating patellas and is going to likely have one leg amputated, he also doesn't have the best of temperaments despite being socialized.
