three weeks along and not eating I know it is normal for pregnant females to not eat around this time, I was wondering when I should be concerned though. Libbie won't really eat anything. I have tried chicken, cottage cheese, dog treats, she did eat a small amount of science diet chicken puppy food(canned)this morning, but when I say small I mean maybe the size of a nickel. She has not thrown up, but she is more lethargic. How long should this last before I become concerned? This started yesterday. Thanks melanie

Get some nurtical!! That will help keep her blood sugar normal!! If she is lethargic I would at least call your vet and make sure they don't want to see her. My girls did the same thing and nutrical did the trick and also I boiled chicken livers and mashed them - kept 'em pretty liquidy and poured some on their food and it helped alot!! Good luck!!

My little Minnie is preg too and does not seem to want to eat much either. I have been fixing her boiled chicken and rice and hamburgar and rice and she does eat a little of that. But now her stools look not so good.............I even went out and got some dry puppy food to try and see if she would eat any of that and nope she walks away from it. | |

Stay away from the science diet. I would also get her some "nutri stat" a little different from nutri cal. It it for finikey eaters. Give her a dapple the size from your knuckle to end of finger twice a day until she gets her appetite back. I had a picky eater once, i gave her brown rice, chicken meat and took a can of wet food and mixed it in with that and she ate! Good luck and let us know how it's going.

I agree with Robbie-all I use is NutriStat.. They take it better maybe because it smells fishy. I would have concerns about a femalenot eating during the first and second tri-mester. There are so many cells multiplying and making really important organs-heart, lungs, brain and the glands and so on. So, maybe a good vet check would reveal the underlying reason for her loss of appetite..She needs different nutrients that what she will get from the foods you mention..Please have her checked--maybe even a blood panel..

Sometimes like woman female yorkies during early gestation "Go off their food". I would also suggest to have Nutrical or Nutristat handy at all times. Also you may want to have your vet check her out.

My Girls back to eating her dry food. She only went a little less then a week of being really pickey and not wanting it. But she did eat her rice and other foods. so she is doing fine now. I was wondering if your girl has picked back up on her eating yet?

Hi, thanks to everyone for your help. I did call the vet on Friday and he said to just watch her till monday, but she has improved so I am not worried now. I guess she just had morning sickness, but when they are such small dogs it is scary. I did give her some nutri stat and also kept making her drink little bits and by yesterday she was eating on her own again. Hopefully everything else goes well too!!!!
