| In-line breeding question Is it true that you should breed a daughter back to her dad occcasionally to keep her line strong??? That just sounds...wierd. We are going to keep a girl from She-Ra, but i don't know if I want to use her with Harley. Any suggestions??? Or have I been told wrong all these years???

| breeding I hestitate to answer this question as I have recently been told many show breeders keep a red leg to darken the color from time to time...I had no clue???? I am not familiar with strengthening a bitches line by breeding her back to her sire either..inbreeding will reveal any faults and genetic problems in the line..but a better way IMO is..if you have a quality bitch, of excellent pedigree, I would breed her to another quality male of excellent pedigree to produce the best you can. |

| This is a tough question and i'm not going to answer it completey because i don't like to give out advice on genetics. It's so tricky and so complicated. My advice to you is to get the book by Ann Seranne entitled The Joy of Breeding your own Show Dog. She covers all of this in such a wonderful fashion that all of us can appreciate and learn from. I read a chapter over and over atleast every nite. |
