?? for Breeders..Why do you have a website? I have seen some threads here about the troubles breeders have with their websites...so I'm wondering why you have one and is it more trouble than its worth.

I dont think Ive ever posted on here I have trouble with my website, but boy do I. I have Dial up and sometimes getting the thing to download is a bear. Takes forever on some days, and It can be totally frustrating. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I reach a larger group of interested yorkie people by a website then by advertising in say my local paper. Its more cost effective because one week in my local paper is around 75.00, and it saves me alot of money having a website. Its like advertising in hundreds of papers, without the huge cost, as long as someone searches the internet or has a computer at all. I love to take pictures of my babies and its a fun way of showing them off. They begin to learn small command like "stay" with picture taking and its like my public yorkie album for others to enjoy them. A website is also a good way to share helpful links and educate people about yorkies. Its and excellent tool to teach, advertise, and share photos.

I have had my website for about 2 1/2 years now. A friend did it for me and kept it simple so download time on dial up wasnt too long. My purpose for my website is to impart information about Yorkies, a bit about myself, my dogs and why I breed and show my dogs. I have two pages of pictures, one the show pictures, the other page is my family pictures. I do not advertise puppies for sale via my website. The pictures are puppies I have had in the past some were sold for pet at that time, some I kept and are the new champions I am breeding now. I only will sell a pup for pet not for show or breeding, as that particular pup is not something I wish to keep for show/breeding. These are very nice Yorkies, very nice pets, just not what I want for the show rings to eventually use in my breeding program. My website is not a nuisance at all. I don't mind the enquiries as it gives me the opportunity to educate about Yorkie ownership and I often refer people to breeders local to them if they are not in my area. I do not ship and explain why and why it is not a good idea to get a pup that way. Very few people that found me via my website got a puppy from me. My interview procedure is pretty stringent and it must be a local buyer. Many of my pet puppy buyers are from referrals from people who have seen my dogs owned by others in my area and called me. Some puppy buyers met me while I was at a dog show. I do not advertise in newspapers or anywhere on the 'net when I do have puppies for sale. I do not sell puppies until 4 -5 months of age so plenty of time for excellent puppy owners to come out of the woodwork. The downside is that it badly needs updating and I need to get ahold of my friend that did it for me to update it and I want to keep it updated myself. It is on my list of things to do real soon.

I have a website because I enjoy sharing my love for yorkies with others. It gives me a way to show what I do and love, as well as to educate at the same time.

Good question. I don't have a website. I thought about getting one, but with only having had one litter so far, their ain't much to put on there!!! I would think that breeders would have a website to show off pictures or their dogs, give people some info and insite to their breeding practices and to basically 'brag' about what a good job they're doing. Like I said, I thought about getting one, but after the crap that seems to have gone on here this weekend, I think....no, I'm CERTAIN...I've changed my mind!!!

As with any reputable breeder, as you know, we do not advertise specific puppies available and we sure don't advertise stud dogs available. Most of all we don't put anyone's dog on our sites but our own. These things start crossing the line from hobby to business. I don't think the purpose of a website is to sell puppies, but to share information and to showcase my dogs to other exhibitors and the proud pet owners that have a relative of one of my showdogs. I get many emails requesting more help from pet owners. I help where I can but feel my site covers enough that it helps them.

Hi there Cher, Yep and actually the person who did my site for me was a prospective puppy buyer. She was looking for a Yorkie for about 5 months when she stumbled over me somewhere before I had my site. She liked the way I cared for and about my Yorkies. She did buy a pup from me but also pressured me into a website and offered to do it for me for the sole reason of giving an alternative site of info, my policies for my puppies, from someone who obviously cared very much about their dogs and puppies and the homes any that might be for sale could go to. I thought she had a good point because as she said sites like this need to be out there for people to find and learn.

I agree Websites should be up for information to guide people not to advertise selling of puppies with drop down credit card boxes and pictures of availabitly, or stud services. Most show people only showcase there show Yorkies and puppies they have placed in the past. So that people can see what a yorkie should truly look like. Most of us have different ages of yorkies on our site to represent the color changes they go thru.

| Cher created my website and maintains it for me. We recently updated it, adding new show pictures and those of my upcoming stars. I do not offer puppies on my site, nor stud service, as my males are not available for public stud. But I do have links on my site to other websites that might be helpful to someone "serfing the net". If I DO receive a call for a puppy, I can refer them to my site so they can see the sire and dam. | Well I have my site up for educational purposes and to show off all of my Yorkies..What can I say? I'm equal opportunity. I love to show off my adults, my puppies, and pups I've produced. I am so anal in how I do things and word things on my site, I want to be very clear that these are my babies and their health and happiness comes first, not only while they are with me but even after they leave my home. I've met wonderful people in the Yorkie world. The only thing that's irritating is when you see other breeder websites that use some of my material which has come from my heart and is nothing but truth and honesty..funny how others can imply the samething with creative writing. I spell everything out that I do, so there is NO mistake. I have all the vet bills to prove what I put into my program..buyers she ask breeders direct questions even when they feel good about a website, you may be surprised as to what you are told. I love doing graphics and web design, that's also why I have a website, I just love playing around |
