I have had my website for about 2 1/2 years now. A friend did it for me and kept it simple so download time on dial up wasnt too long.
My purpose for my website is to impart information about Yorkies, a bit about myself, my dogs and why I breed and show my dogs.
I have two pages of pictures, one the show pictures, the other page is my family pictures.
I do not advertise puppies for sale via my website. The pictures are puppies I have had in the past some were sold for pet at that time, some I kept and are the new champions I am breeding now.
I only will sell a pup for pet not for show or breeding, as that particular pup is not something I wish to keep for show/breeding. These are very nice Yorkies, very nice pets, just not what I want for the show rings to eventually use in my breeding program.
My website is not a nuisance at all. I don't mind the enquiries as it gives me the opportunity to educate about Yorkie ownership and I often refer people to breeders local to them if they are not in my area.
I do not ship and explain why and why it is not a good idea to get a pup that way.
Very few people that found me via my website got a puppy from me. My interview procedure is pretty stringent and it must be a local buyer. Many of my pet puppy buyers are from referrals from people who have seen my dogs owned by others in my area and called me. Some puppy buyers met me while I was at a dog show.
I do not advertise in newspapers or anywhere on the 'net when I do have puppies for sale. I do not sell puppies until 4 -5 months of age so plenty of time for excellent puppy owners to come out of the woodwork.
The downside is that it badly needs updating and I need to get ahold of my friend that did it for me to update it and I want to keep it updated myself. It is on my list of things to do real soon. |
