Whelping pads will be ordered shortly, my wife is a nurse and has a really good stethoscope, the rest of the items are fairly easy to obtain and I have three pens similar to yours that I could easily use for whelping. I'll have to look around for the warming pad and mucus trap, no idea where to find those?

How much of the calcium do you administer between births? I plan to get everything that is for sure recommended but something's I just haven't done before.

I don't feel comfortable recommending dosages - quick absorbing calcium can be a lifesaver literally if a dog gets eclampsia, can prevent C-sections, can help to get a distressed puppy out quicker BUT if given when a puppy is malpresented (laying across birth canal), two puppies at once, pelvis not wide enough to pass puppy, it can cause the uterus to burst, if given the wrong amount it can literally stop a heart, but I do recommend having it, but talk to your vet on the when to use, how much to use, etc. Maybe another breeder has more experience than I and will chime in on their recommendations. The oral syringe will come with dosages though.

| I have never given calcium during the whelping but I do give a little Nutri-cal throughout the delivery and it seems to help.

She had her vet appointment today and is up in weight 2.4 lbs. x-ray is scheduled for tomorrow and the vet says there is no issue with an X-ray at day 41 or 42. I should know more tomorrow. Whelping box is complete, just need to order some pads and buy some towels. She got some vitamins from the vet as well, decided against any calcium, she gets plenty from the blue buffalo and the Dr. Doesn't anticipate any issues with her.

scared. Took my 7 year old male Yorkie to the Animal Hospital 12:30 a.m. to 4:30 with a lot of blood loss in stool and mucus. Could somebody put in a link for a direct site to discuss medical issues. What is HGE? Julierenee1958

Day 57 today, she is really showing now and it is very easy to see where the puppies are. I'm ready for her to deliver these puppies already, she looks so uncomfortable.

| I have been following your thread. I know nothing about breeding, I know from friends that breed sounds like your little girl is about to deliver, good luck, I hope the whelping goes easy on the momma and she has beautiful healthy babies. You must be so excited.

She went into labor at 230am, first puppy did not make it, she actually ran from it so we removed the sack (there appeared to be 3?) the 3rd was tight to the pups body. 2nd delivery came only 15 minutes later, she had the sack and the cord taken care of in less than a minute and he appears to be doing well. Still looking for signs of a 3rd labor/puppy.

She did not have a 3rd puppy, mother seems to be doing well, vet appt. scheduled for tomorrow, seems a little warm so we will monitor her temp. The puppies are doing great so far as I can tell. We have a 5.7oz female and a 5.0oz male that mom just loves and is doing a great job with.
