| Anyone want to take the time to give me opinions on this site? As some of you know, I am beginning my search for a Yorkie pup. I don't plan to get another puppy until spring, but obviously, I'm starting early. I received a recommendation for justrightyorkies.com and went and took a look. Great thing for me is they are located close enough for me to make as many trips there as necessary. My first impression is good, and I have already sent a basic message asking some questions. Just based on their site, what are your thoughts? Any red flags that I'm missing? Thanks in advance |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Well, I believe a breeder should follow the Yorkie standard. The standard gives a description what the ideal Yorkie should look like. Even when you breed dogs within this standard, you are going to produce some dogs that don't fit the standard and these dogs should not be bred. The reason is if you take a dog that doesn't fit standard and continue to breed to dogs who don't fit standard the offspring will get further and further away from looking anything like a Yorkie. Breeders should try to conform to this standard, and most good breeders do this through showing their dogs. This breeder doesn't care about standard, they are trying to produce dogs with "good personalities" and while this too is very important, one should never rule out one over the other. It's possible to find a breeder who breeds both to standard and also chooses her breeding pets for personality and even more importantly health. While her breeding dogs are cute, they are not good examples of the breed, some have extremely kinky hair and others have long droopy ears. Also, besides the AKC, these dogs have been registered with APRI & CKC. I'm wondering why? This means that they probably sell breeding rights with every dog they sell, because anyone can register with the CKC and get breeding rights. Also, APRI was started by commercial breeders and what are most commonly known as puppy mill dogs. At least with the AKC a breeder can choose to sell with limited registration. This is just my opinion, and I do believe we have too many pets available, if you just want a pet, I suggest you look at rescues and shelters. If you really want a Yorkie, I suggest you find a breeder who actually wants to improve the breed, in other ways than just personality. I've got to admit, some breeders don't even care about that, and I appreciate the fact that there are some who do. I say, you can find a breeder who strives for everything.

If you live near her, then definitely, visit her home and ask to meet the parents, pups. Ask for references. Ask if she does any health clearances. Ask if she gives you a health guarantee. It looks like she's a member on this board. Her username is "Teresa Ford", and it looks like she created this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...h-barking.html She lets her puppies come home at 12 weeks, which is good. I think the best thing to do is visit her house. Good luck!

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | You need to also look at her health guarantee and contract and see if it is something you wish to sign as is, or request changes to it, before meeting any puppies. Her dogs are not championed as far as I can tell by her website, nor do any of them look like great representatives of the breed. She speaks not of what health screenings she does or what health registries she has listed her breeding dams n sires on. .

| I believe Just Right Yorkies is YT member Teresa Ford's Yorkies. She has been a valued member here, but I can't speak personally about her breeding program other than she loves her dogs.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I feel the same way, she has a lot of knowledge as a trainer, and while every breeder needs to have training knowledge, there is a lot of things trainers should learn before they decide to breed, and the first thing in my opinion, is the importance of a breed standard.
