| Breeding rights I had a pup that I was going to keep for breeding but I ended up rehoming her last winter instead. The problem is, the lady I sold her to had this whole song and dance about how she was only going to be a pet and they were going to get her spayed and all that and then the day after she took her home she started calling me about breeding this pup. The dog has full akc registration so there's really nothing to stop her. I usually have a spay/neuter contract with the pups but this woman was a friend of a friend and I (stupidly) trusted her. Is there anything I can do or am I just out of luck? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wow, this is really too bad. Poor pup. I think the only thing you can do is be really upfront and honest about how you feel about what she is doing, VS. her original agreement with you, which you expected her to respect. Hindsight is 20/20, but I believe in cases like this the pup should always be spayed before leaving. Why was she rehomed anyway?

| Unfortunately, I think you are out of luck. Gives you a very CLEAR PICTURE OF EXACTLY WHAT HER INTEGRITY AND ETHICS AS A BREEDER ARE GOING TO BE.... Nothing in writing, no contract for spay neuter, .....you may try calling the AKC and telling them the story, tell them you want to make this a limited registeration female because you do not want to sell breeders.....they MAY be able to help you.....good luck.....my trusting, confrontational self would have already been on that womans door. Did you give her the transfer registeration papers? If you didnt, you may be able to contact the AKS IMMEDIATELY, tell them you have transferred ownership to another party and you need to get her the form so you can each sign it, and you can specify that the female is to be rehomed without breeding rights..... | Sadly, this pup is the looser here...what a shame that people treat these pups with so little regard. In the future you want to make sure you prescreen perspective families first. I can't for the life of me imagine handing over any pup to just anyone.
