you in the UK op? many breeders here don't actually use breeding endorsements etc- something i've only noticed recently... and it tends to be the older one who don't use them.
it could well be his age playing a part as well. since he hasn't mated yet, could be his instinct hasn't kicked in when with her yet.
what tests have you had done? i only ask because not a single person in the breed can recommend to me any health Test they see as necessary before breeding here... only been told to check history for the likes of PRA and have an LP check... but that does mean knowing the lines etc. and i have to agree with lovetodream88 about the quality of breeder- to sell a pup as mini proves they don't know much about the breed (a lot of people think they are sized like poodles when there is actually only the one size classification).

Ive read on here it can be common for a first time stud not to know what to do thats why most good breeders want a proven stud. you probably need to assist in the whelping guiding the male t9 the female

Yeppers...tell me about this!! I have a 10 y.o male that was studded out the first 7 years of his life(NOT by me) and we thought he was doing so good until 2 days ago, when I found that he'd pee'd on the side of his bed in the living room, the side of my new couch, and the trash can. And he's lifted his leg on the end of our bed too.

He DOES ask to go out and he goes out all of the time...but it's just ingrained in his brain and I will probably NEVER break him from it!!


to the OP~~Please...READ, READ, and READ more because it sounds like you are VERY VERY new to this...I commend you coming here to learn more and I pray that whomever owns the bitch is way more seasoned and knowledgeable about breeding and Yorkies in general.

Well, no. Not yet. But if I had one litter, I would be one as well. If you aren't breeding to better the breed, then what are you? Certainly one litter doesn't make you a miller though.

The normal practice when breeding is to bring the female to the male. Some males feel very uncomfortable out of their environment and they will not attempt to breed. Are the male and female comparable in size? The best thing to do would be to put them together in one room and let them slowly get to know each other. You should never leave them alone unsupervised. Once he does start showing interest in the female then it is always best to hold the female once the male starts mounting her because often a female will get scared and pull away once the male penetrates her.

The truth is some males are very easy to breed and some are very difficult.

Do you know what day of her heat cycle she is on? Is she still showing any color? Most females are ready to breed sometime between the 9th and 18th day. Some will accept a male before the 9th day and some will accept a male up to 21 days after their heat cycle.

Also try for a non slippery surface. Nonslip mats. If there is a large height differential he may need to be raised up a bit.

Well no, but why is the breeding form here? I'm not saying its right, I dont think we should beat up the members that come on asking questions- they are adults they dont need a lecture, they dont need someone speaking to them like their Mothers. The Op was very nice, she didnt deserve the response she was getting-

For first timers in breeding be they males or females, almost anything can be normal. :-)

But it is quite normal for the first time the male is not too sure what to do especially when coupled with being in a strange environment and with a strange lass.

And I concur with using an enclosed space and ideally both owners stick around, and monitor the process, and intervene if necessary.
