First time male stud?
 
hey all, i came here for advice.
i have a 3 1/2 year old male yorkie. hes a miniature but not teacup.
ive had all tests etc done by vets because id like to breed him. the female has also had everything done, bth come with papers etc.

so i tookl my male to see the female and he was very interested, as a first timer with this stuff i thought it was usual that he didnt mount her. she was flagging her tail and backing into him but the first and second time all he did was sniff and lick her. after a while i took him hime and he cried the entire way. maybe hes not interested. shes into her 2nd week of season according to the owners and both dogs are same breed size and around same age.:)

can anyone please tell me what i am doing wrong and please, be nice :) thankyou in advance ill take everything into consideration.

Unfortunately Yorkietalk is not a Breeding Instruction site. Most, but not all, here believe that the only reason to breed is to better the breed.

There are many things that need to be done prior to breeding, starting with obtaining a mentor...starting with proven health tested pairs.....

I'm not sure why you are breeding these pups but its best to leave it to the "pros"....many bad things can happen to these small pups when breeding, many.

Again, unfortunately for you we are not a Breeding Instruction forum....

Just to answer your question, some males take a while to get to know the female before they are comfortable. It could also be the wrong time for the female if the owner isnt experienced and know for a fact that the female is ovulating. Your male sounds perfectly normal in his response. Sometimes it takes several efforts before they tie. I do agree that you need to find someone local to you who can guide you in breeding. There are other questions that you will need to ask if you succeed in mating the two.

Thank you. And I only came on for advice. Not to get you to tell me what to do (other abswerer)

I just needed to know if it was normal

I'll try get hold of someone to mentor me and see how it goes.

I understand. I agree, I think a mentor is very much needed. Is this your first time studding him? ( not sure the proper term LOL)
What about the female? Is this her first time..? Just make sure you do your research.. you having a male, there aren't as much risks as with the owner using the female. However there are some personality changes your male can get after he studs as well as marking issues.. Just make sure you do all your research ( most important the owner with the female) to see what can happen, the dangers of breeding both, the cost.. etc. etc

Any questions please ask..

Did you get his BAT's tested? How's his knees? BTW, getting 'health tested' by a vet means little to nothing. They have no way of knowing what the dog's gene carries. You need to know their lines, some reputable breeders knows the lines for many generations back. Pairing w/any female can be very dangerous bc if both parents carry a recessive gene, they'll pass it on to their offspring. That's great that you're getting together w/a mentor, hope she has the knowledge to guide you. Best of luck to you & your little man.

We've had trsts done. I don't know the names of them because my other half deals with that. And yeah both thief first time I have all papers of his lines and parents were both from good family's- great genes etc. as far as I know he has no recessive gene, nothing came up in the results so-
His behaviour hasn't changed he seems the same as before. I just don't know if it was normal for this to be happening.

Lecture? Directions on how to breed? Don't tell me how to post, it is against the rules.

I don't understand why you are saying some of us lecture about not breeding, when the thread about Shy you did the same. Yet on here you are pretty much telling the OP to go ahead.

I would hope that you would first learn that there is no such thing as a mini or teacup yorkie before you start breeding.

Also your male hasn't shown any change in behaviour now, but just wait until after he has bred. You will have such a headache dealing with a now working dog. Not to mention marking all over the house and trying to run away when a female is in heat somewhere in town.

Your asking what to do and I told you what I think you should do...yes you need a mentor, a good one. There is a lot of information in the threads on how to find one.

Did you breeder sell him as a miniature if they did I can guarantee you the breeder was either a bad breeder or a puppy mill because there is no such thing and a reputable breeder does not use the words miniature and teacup. Also its very hard to get breeding rights from a reputable breeder because they work so very hard for there lines. Its also very important to make sure the female you are mating with has had all test that should be done and here lines or know or you are helping to bring sick puppies in this world that might suffer and die or just might be unwanted. I have heard after you mate you male you should expect a lot of issues one of them being peeing all over your house.

So how is this person trying to breed any different then the other person trying to breed?

Hey. I just used those word as I was unsure of the correct terminology. I knew the breeders owners of my dog so know that he came from reputable people. Also I wouldn't ever buy from puppy farms. It's in humane and cruel. Why would anyone do that to an animal is beyond me.
We've had both dogs checked and tested. Things are perfect on both ends. I made sure the females owners had ha her checked first. Hips and joints are tip top etc.
