When I took Shy and Dash for their morning relief, I came back to find three tiny urine spots on the mat for the puppies, and three little girls looking at me and wagging their tails LOL!

I've been able to get them to eat a little more soft and soaked puppy food mix each day. Last night a couple tried to eat Shy's dry food, but, just ended up gumming it up and dropping it.

I am glad the little pups are doing well. If you take some dry puppy food and grind it in a blender until it is really fine like corn meal the pups will be able to lick it. Just put it in a small bowl and leave it out for them. It helps with the weaning process. As they get bigger you will not have to grind it as fine.

I did just that. It seems to work. Dash and Shy don't seem to care for Wilderness anymore. They've had 3 bags each now. I guess they're tastes change as ours do maybe?

Anyways, I got some Nutro Ultra Puppy Food for the puppies. I'm going to blend some of it and add to the cup of Wilderness Puppy food that I have powdered now. The puppies lap at it here and there.

We just got back from the vet. Everyone got a checkup and the pups got their first deworming. Shy got a full comprehensive exam as well. I also asked them to do a calcium level check. They told me everything was fine. If anything with her blood-work comes back abnormal, I'll get a call. They also expressed Shy's anal glands.

Here's another little video I did when we got home. After the video I trimmed Shy's hair and nails a bit and gave her a shower. I used some mild hand soap to clean her a bit better today. I made sure to really rinse her off also... being that she's still breast feeding and all.

Shy is a very attentive mommy. The girls have been doing very well because of her. Letting any of them go is going to become a pretty difficult challenge. They have started running up to the puppy gate when I come home, like Shy does and they get excited to see me!

I'm going to give the Ultra a try tonight with them. I only put it out when I'm around because Shy or Dash will try and eat it.

James, the video is precious; thanks for posting updates. Seeing the little girls walking around and playing is so cute, and darling Shy is always checking on them.

I wish I could see them in person, although I would certainly want to keep them all.

I have been thinking of separating them at night, so they eat more puppy food though. Shy keeps eating theirs and her soaked food when I leave them in the closet with her at night and during the day.

I have an album on my Google Plus, that's for the all the pups. I don't know how to browse it but it shouldn't be hard to figure out. :)

They are growing up fast. They looks like sweet puppies.

Amazing to see how big and independent they seem to be getting. They look so sweet and playful.

Oh yeah, very playful. two of them have "the spot" that makes their leg go crazy lol.
Now, I'm starting to deal with finding tiny tootsie rolls here and there haha!! I need to find a way to train them to the potty spots better...

An update is in order...
I haven't named the puppies yet, but, "#2" got feces stuck in her hair, at the base of her tail. When I noticed it, I cleaned it off and let her finish her bowel movement. Right then I noticed some blood and two tears of skin. sad face!
Being in the medical field, I cleaned it very well and applied a warm compress. I did this four times before putting her to bed. That was last night. Today I got her in at the new vet's office and she's now on antibiotics, pain meds, and a laxative. All are liquid, oral medications. It was a couple hundred, but, she's napping now. She has been eating a tiny bit of dry puppy food, soaked in water with a tab of low-sodium chicken broth (for taste). Of course she knocked out after her pain meds. I gave her about .02ml's less than the prescribed amount for pain medication. And I'm keeping an eye on her.

When I got in from work, she was mobile and licking me. Even still, when I wake her up to check on her, she walks a bit and licks me. She seems fine and not as much grunting from her wound now. Her px med is 3x/day along with her laxative. And of course antibiotics are twice a day. Here's a pic of her bum from last night.

I shaved all the girls' hind ends last night, to help prevent the problem in the future.

Her meds are:
Butorphanol 1mg/ml in cherry syrup
Clavamox 62.5mg/ml
Lactulose 10g/15ml

EDIT:
She's gotten up a couple times in the last half hour to have a BM, but, hasn't produced anything yet. Apparently, the laxative is starting to work. She whines a little like she needs to go. After a moment, she lays down and rests. When she's done, she goes back to the other girls and plops on top of them, while they're resting.

I don't want to confuse people... she has a stool softener. Not a laxative. She's a little more activr this morning by the way. Runs up to the gate like normal. Shower time and med time....

So sorry she is having bm issues and the tear. That cute little butt looked sore in the photo. I hope everything heals smoothly.

She's doing great! the wound isn't healing abnormally fast, but, she's active. I clean her bottom about 4 or 5 times a day, under warm water, followed by a warm compress. She has two days of pain meds left. And I believe 6 days of antibiotics along with stool softener. I don't do the "SS" to the full dosage. It works pretty fast and she needs to use the potty within a few minutes. Until it passes through her system, she whines and drags her bottom sometimes. The "AB" meds don't seem to irritate her though.

She has energy and is happy. I just wish it'd heal back to normal soon. I don't think her sphincter is damaged, as she still produces normal appearing bowel movements, that are controlled.

Another one has scratched herself enough to produce two small nicks on her neck. Two nights ago I noticed it. I shaved and cleaned the areas. She gets a cleaning twice a day and a very little bacitracin. When I got home today, the spots looked much better. All girls still have fun any play with each other and me. "Poo Pants" is sketchy of me some times. I assume that's because she thinks her bum is going to get rinsed and I'm sure it isn't fun.

Just another update. Girls doing great. "Poo pants" is nearly all healed up. They've all started this first set of shots and deworming is complete. I think I'll have a little while longer with the two girls going away, because, their vet recommends about 6 months of age until I can have them spayed. She said the earliest would be about 4 months. And I don't want to let them go to other homes until they're spayed. I know the two people they're going to, but, accidents happen. If they get stolen, someone could use them for breeding... Just a lot of things.

Anyway, they turn 8 weeks tomorrow (Monday). Shy just got a bath. I gave the pups a Martha Stewart puppy shampoo and conditioning two days ago.

I am so glad you updated today, I was thinking of them earlier wondering how they are doing. Gosh, they are growing up so fast, and all are beyond adorable!

It looks like their ears are trying to stand up, and if you want, you can help that happen by trimming the hair on the upper 1/3 of their ear to take the weight off. Then again, it may just happen all by itself.

Man, I don't know how you will ever give any up, especially keeping them to 6 months. But good for you, just enjoy them. So you will have to start their potty training, or maybe you already have. I guess by now you are used to being busy with them.

Such beautiful puppies. I am so happy for you and little Shy that they are all doing so well.

BTW~Are you sure your going to be able to part with those girls after 6 months!! LOL!! I think it's a great idea to keep the puppys until they are fixed though! It ensures no mess ups!!

For some reason, I could see you deciding to hold onto all of them. At the beginning, I think you mentioned the possibility of your mother taking one....is she still planning on that?? My mom has 2 of my dogs puppies(I adopted him after the breeder got done using him as a stud dog) and it's been very helpful. It's also been interesting because we get to compare health issues and personality traits.

Yeah, they're getting big and fast. I've had to "puppy proof" the couches and a few areas. One or two of their ears will stand for a day or soe and then flop back down. I didn't think of trimming them. I may give it a shot. I would really like to get them better potty trained. Cleaning up their waste is definitely a regular chore for sure. Training Shy and Dash was a challenge itself. Three at a time will be an interesting test of patience :)

Parting with any of them will be hard for certain! My mom is living with one of my sisters in Hawaii now. One girl will go to the dad's owner and another to a family of one of my co-workers. They lost a dog recently and still have their chiwawa.


So, folks I have a question.
THE FOLLOWING IS A VEEERY LONG READ!


Shy has been vomiting recently. I've looked through about 4 pages of the "Yorkie Health and Diet" section for a similar issue. Most of them refer to either an illness that is systemic (multiple systems and symptoms) or simply adding/removing portions of food, or adding something to their diet.

Subjectively, her noticed vomiting started about 4 days.
Changes she's had are:

-Stopping/separating of nursing the puppies at 8 days ago (when puppy teeth started coming in).

-She was on two different puppy blends before birthing and around 6 weeks after puppies were born (weaned to adult blend for a week). That was Wellness --> Wellness respectively.

-7 days ago we switched from Wellness (adult small breed) to Royal Canin (adult small breed) within 3 days. I was running low on Wellness and wanted to make a switch, since she wasn't eating much of it, even soaked.

-WET FOOD: 5 days ago she started getting 1 8oz can of wet food over a day and a half. Day 1 was some of the puppies' wet Blue Puppy food. Day 2-3.5 she got Royal Canin adult small breed. Day 3.5-4.5 was Blue Buffalo adult small breed. And yesterday to this morning was Royal Canin adult small breed. All wet food has been mixed with dry food and about 3-4 days ago I started popping it in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it more appetizing. Her bowl has two sections. One side is the wet/dry mix. The other is dry only. Occasionally, I add a bit of water to the dry to make it soft. She seems to eat soft better. Twice, I took the left over water soaked food and mixed with fresh wet food. I change the canned wet food once it starts to dry out. Or if it's there when I get up or come home for lunch or the end of the day.

-Revolution. 6 days ago was her first topical flea/tick treatment with Revolution. Her hair was getting matted so I gave her her flea shampoo bath and cleaned off the Revolution. Today, I gave her a 50/50 diluted Dawn shower, just in case there was any interaction.


Objectively, Shy acts totally normal. I mean TOTALLY normal. She is still excited to go for walks, goes nuts when we get up. She spins around when I ask "what do good girls get?" (treat time), jumps up and down on the couch, and still likes "puppy kisses".
-No fever (101.2-101.5), no diarrhea normal twice/day bowel movements -No lethargy,
-Breasts have no tenderness or erythema. Although, they are slightly firm still, but, no lumps. No venous streaking. Swelling has been steadily decreasing daily.
-Normal breathing and lung sounds,
-Eyes are PERRLA, gums pink (minor plaque... :-/ time for a brushing).

Now, I'm starting to think it's the change in diet....

I am going to continue checking temps and assessing daily.

I was worried about mastitis and have been checking multiple times per day for abnormalities. That'll be continuous. Upon recommendation from their vet and common sense, I made sure they weren't nursing anymore due to their ability to eat puppy food and their puppy teeth coming in. Everything I've read on the subject does not indicate vomiting as a symptom though. I'm also going to try milking a bit to reduce swelling and ensure there's no bacteria building, just in case.

So, I plan on taking her in probably Saturday or sooner if she doesn't stop vomiting. Her blood work from her latest visit was clean. However, I may just have more labs done anyways.

If anyone has any insights I would appreciate them. And sorry for the long and possibly misplaced question, but, I DID warn you :). BTW, the puppies are just fine...

Oh yeah, I don't want someone to worry about one of the girls or their possible puppy(ies) surviving, like I did. Or possibly being used to just breed Yorkies, or worse.
