| The Parti is a relatively rare and controversial color variation that is not allowed in the "standard" for the Yorkshire Terrier. Some people like them enough to pay a premium price for the novelty. I wouldn't, but there are some Parti breeders on this site who do. The most important thing when looking at puppies is to assure yourself the breeder has a good reputation.

| I have a standard and a parti, yes they are a recognized yorkie with AKC HOWEVER they are not as highly valued as a standard. A Parti Yorkie if I am understanding correctly is like tri colored and has some white. My party when we bought him had lots of white, brown, and red but is now mainly white with a little ( VERY LITTLE) of the brown and red left. He was called a golden parti, It's there but not much of it left. they are purebred yorkies though and if another breed is mixed in then they are a mixed breed. That is MY understanding so take it for what it's worth. |

| Parti Yorkies are not a mix with maltese it is a resessive gene in the yorkie pair that causes them if I am not mistaken.

| Nana, I believe you are correct. That is what I've read anyway. OP If someone is telling you they are rare and worth more then they are not being truthful BUT that is subjective... and if a Maltese is in the mix they are just flat out lying to you. My old vet didn't know what a parti was, had never heard of it, but my new old school country vet knew exactly what it was but hadn't seen his 1st until about 2 years ago. Edited to add: If you are purchasing a puppy for pet reason's only I love my parti but if you are considering breeding I would stick with the standard. JMHO though. Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Partis are tri-colored Yorkies. They can be registered with but not shown in AKC. Can be shown in some other venues. There is no standard set for them that allows for the non-standard coloring, but typically, most Parti breeders follow the YT standard with color as the exception. And little extra info The Biewer, named after the founder, originated in Germany in the mid 80's. Over the years they are selectively bred and a standard was set. The standard is similar to the Yorkie, but calls for specific color placement. White paws, tip of the tail, symetrical coloring on the head and face, etc and no docking of tail. It has been recognized as a separate breed by some organization and can be shown in some venues. Not in the AKC Biewer info can be found here... Biewer Breed Club of America You can get more info on the Parti Yorkie here... Yorkshire Terrier - PARTI YORKSHIRE TERRIER CLUB
