| ![]() I am all for a mutipul dog household, but a whole male is a whole dif story! My Bamse Bjorn, a 2lb 2 oz male was kept whole... and lord knows I payed for it a hundred times over! My girlfried was a novice breeder and begged me to keep this "Tiny" male whole. He was just the runt of the litter.... the sire and dam were over 6 lbs.... Its amazing how small he was! But what was evenmore amazing was the amount of damage to my home and its contents his little pisser could do! I did not know about belly bands back then..... Boy do I wish I had... but this was before I was computer savy and had access to such great information. My neighbor had a female and I had a female poodle. Between the two females he was very excitable! And marked every thing in the house including the antique china hutch that was had been in my family forever! After years of dealing with the constant PEE! I had had it! And my girlfriend who had been begging me to sell him back to her finally got her wish... She caught me at a very weak moment and I caved in... He was thrilled to be with her as she had been his pet sitter from day one. But it was heartbreaking to let him go... I just could not deal with the constant marking and the stress that it put on my marriage... I was defending Bamsa everyday... and he loved marking infront of my husband.... like he was saying " look big human guy, I own this, and this, and this, oh.... and this over here too!" It was very hard.... I don't know that I can ever do another male... or that my hubby would let me! lol But with the belly bands... maybe it would have been easier to cope... I don't know... I would really think long and hard... If you really want a male for breeding, I would find a good breeder with a quality stud or sign a deal with a friend and co-own a male. But then she will have the marking pup.... maybe they do better without females in the house? I don't know. If it were me... I don't think I can ever do it again... not after loosing about 60% of my furniture and the stress on my marriage. Not to mention how hard it was for me to part with him after all that time! He was my baby! As crazy as he made me with the marking... It was very hard on everyone involved...

| ![]() Belly Bands are the answer. Willie loves to mark and if he didn't have his belly band everything would be marked. Some of the members here make and sell them. I've got to admit it's kinda cute to see him lift his tiny leg, but with the band on it's safe. |

| ![]() I have never had this problem and sometimes even have two "whole" males as babies to our family. I watch them closely starting at about 4 months when they were most likely to start this behavior and scolded them firmly and take them to the doggie door. Also I ignored them for at least a half hour when they came right back in that doggie door ( they can't stand being ignored ). After several times of being firmly told no, then ignored and put out they have all been model citizens in the house. Outside there isn't a blade of grass or bush they haven't gotten however. LOL I now have a 5 month male that has just gone thru the above training and lifts his leg but only OUTSIDE. Maybe I have been lucky but so far I have raised about 16 males ( Yorkies) in the house ( to at least 6 to 10 months ) and have yet to have any that peed inside more than twice. I think most things that can become bad habits could or can be trained away. I have even retrained a 2 yr old male so they can be rehabilitated and not relocated.
