Tiny & Very Pregnant, at least 5, worried sick ;(

There is always room for debate and discussion. The circle of few as you call it are "those who are verabal and post their thoughts and ideas? Do you get phone calls in the middle of the night asking for help from YT members? I get a least 2-3 a week. I am amazed at the number that deal with the birthing process. More then 75% of them have to do with a bitch that IMHO was too small to have been bred in the first place. They call me about what to do- some need to have gone straight to the vet no phone call.

We do not intend to scare these folks- we want them to understand the seriousness of the situation that they have placed their best friend in.
This animal did not choose to be bred- we did it for what ever our reasoning.
Whether it be a planned or unplanned pregancy.

In humans we have planned parenthood. I guess that some of us are the planned parenthood of yorkies. We yike and preach about these little ones being bred because we care about the mom and those puppies. My heart and prayers go out to the mom and the babies.

This is harsh but I have no sympathy for the owner. The owner has the obligation to step up to the plate and act like a responsible and caring adult.
They are in the drivers seat- they need all the knowledge and accurate inforamation they can in a short amount of time. They have decisions that may need to be done quickly and with a clear mind. Everytime I breed my gals "who are larger" I have the same responsibilty- I owe it to my girls.

Vultures- like road kill and enjoy the rewards of death. Do I think that we are vultures no? We want life. We want happiness and joy. We want your breeding experience to be filled with the joy and awe that is part of a newborn. Do we want to see pain and suffering no. WE only wish want the best for you. Many of us have been there and done that. Like a mother or father you want to protect your child from the same mistakes that you have made or seen in your life. Can we completely shelter you no- but we can try to save you from some of the hurt.

I'm not a breeder but my heart breaks everytime I hear about problems due to size or uninformed breeders thinking they can just take 2 yorkies and make cute babies....there are just too many people out there that sometimes NEED frank honest opinions and sometimes there just isn't a way to candy coat something that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I agree with everything you say, my objection is the way some say it. You have not slandered anyone in your post but stated your feelings. Maybe vulture was the wrong choice of words as I don't want to revert to name calling as has been done to me. Some seem to pounce when people are just asking for advice. I don't think it's that they are really that concerned about the subject (dogs size or whatever) they just want to put the person down & belittle them.This is the way they come across to newbies. Here is a line from one of my PMs. " I would really like to tell a few people on her where to go and a few other words but I'm keeping it cool. I don't think I will post on this website anymore.. .." Is this how you want new people coming to this board for help or to make friends to feel??? Not you imparticular but I think the ones that are at fault know who they are. Come on people look at how you come across.

i so agree with this post. I am a very outspoken and opinated person. I am often misunderstood BUT, when I first joined here I was the object of some of the posts you were talking about (Or my breeder was, because my pup's mother was under five pounds). I nearly left because of it. I recieved PM's out the wazoo from other people who own and breed tinies. One even said," many, many on here have and BREED tinies. We have just learned to keep our mouths shut and go on about our business. We don't need all the drama from a few people we get everytime we post something." Looks like I am not going to have to worry about that now. My "tiny" is gonna be a BIG man. LOL

I have to say the best of luck on your little girls birth. It seems like you are doing all there is to do, I feel things will work out fine! You are going to be a VERY busy girl very soon!

Also I have to give my opinion since everyone else does here. Yes, I suppose it is best to breed over 5 lbs. However there are many people that breed tiny yorkies. I got my Mari from one. I got to know her quite well and have spent time at her home. She breeds boys 1.5-2lbs and the girls are around 3.5. She has NEVER had a c section. She is proud of that and showed me the difference of a little girl the same size that she would never breed. She showed me the difference of the hip size. Now I have been there when she has newborns and the ones that are ready to go. Her dogs are healthy and calm. I don't think it is fair to put people in one catagory, that they don't care. She only breeds until they are 5 years old then finds them good homes, or keeps them herself. I respect this woman and I know she totally loves her yorkies.

You may not like what I have to say, but I cannot possibly respect a woman that intentionally breeds a 3.5# female. It's great that she delivers just fine, but, tiny dogs are at higher risk medically. I know, because I have a tiny, 4#'er. She was not intentionally bred to be a tiny, she is from an excellent breeder of show dogs. Occasionally, they get a 'throw-back'.

None-the-less, I've come far-too-close to losing this baby, simply to vaccinations. People that want and demand a tiny have no idea the stress they take into their lives. I love my Kia more than life itself. But my life revolves around keeping her safe, and healthy.

Just my two cents.

P.s. I do, however, feel sorry for Lisa, with Kandi's unplanned pregnancy. I can see from her posts, she's worried sick about her baby, and I hope all goes well, and she, and others have learned not to risk their tiny one's, and get them spayed and never allow them around an unaltered male. My Kia never met a male before she was spayed. Not even an intact one.

I guess that it does depend on the dogs themselves. I have had two tinies. My Ginger was 4 lbs. She was very healthy until her last couple years, she was 15 at death. I never have had any trouble with vacs. The vet that I go to specializes in toy breeds. He is the best and knows how much these little ones can take. I am not offended, I just feel that a normal size yorkie can have problems too, not just the small ones. I do agree they are more fragile and must be watched constantly so they don't get hurt. Mine have been little spitfires. No, I would never breed my little Mari. She has the little narrow hips and is only 3 lbs. She thinks she is 12 lbs!! God I love these Yorkies!!! They are the best!!

I didn't see the father's weight mentioned anywhere. That makes a difference too. If the father is small also, that will probably mean the puppies will be smaller and make the birth easier. My female is around 4.5 to 5 lbs. and she generally just has 1 or 2 pups. Wait and see....if the puppies are small, she could do fine.

Thank you so much for your concern. Kandi is doing great at day 57 (Tuesday, December 27). We are going in late this afternoon or tomorrow am for another progesterone test, her csection is scheduled for Thursday morning at 9:00 am but the test will determine whether she is ready or not.
I am excited but very nervous, we have done everything we think possible to keep her pregnant as long as we can, monitor her health and I know that I have the best vet in this area so the outcome can only be a good one
I will let you know when we have babies, there are supposed to be five, yes FIVE, I am in shock as I have heard this is totally not the norm but nonetheless as I said, it's all good and I can't wait to meet our new babies

Well good luck and keep an eye on her that is a lot of lil mouths pullin from her body once they are here...I cannot remember what is is called but watch out that mom does not get sick from supplying them....read thru the past posts something like emcplyamia??
