| Is she pregnant? I have a female Yorkie named Courtney who has had a previous litter of 5 yorkies about 5 years ago. Last heat cycle she had a false pregnancy. $250, a vet visit and a xray later, we found out she had no pups. I was so dissapointed. We tried one more time this last heat cycle. We actually saw them tie once. I took her to the vet right when the internet searches said would be the best time to have her palpatated (sp?). The vet said she thought she was pregnant with multiple pups. She was bred on 9/3 that we are positive of. She spent much time over the next day with the hopeful dad. I had the vet palpatate her on 10/6. She is due 11/5. I can see no visable signs of pregnancy. I cannot feel anything or see anything moving. She is eating pretty regularly. She is very clingy right now and has been since she was in heat. There is no swelling or lactating yet. Any advice on whether she could be pregnant? We really want to keep the puppy. She is the best dog ever and I want to have one of her pups around. |

| How old is this female? If she had pup 5 years ago then I guess she would probably be close to 7 years old. You usually can't feel pups moving until about a week before they are due. It sounds like she is having reproduction problems and she could be absorbing her pups. If she is not pregnant then it would best to have her spayed so she is not at risk of getting a uterus infection.

| Is she pregnant I don't understand. Why would she be having problems and absorbing her pups? How does that happen? She is about 6 1/2 years old. As much as I really want one of her pups to keep, this is it. If she is not pregnant she will be going in to get spayed. I don't want anything to happen to her and frankly am tired of the "in heat" process! Sounds like there is still hope then. I hope we can feel something in the next week. When she had five you could feel them for a few weeks before she had them. She was huge! |

She has not been bred according to your posting information for 5 yrs or so. That is a long time to go between breedings. I don't know what pre breeding tests you did. As females age, their eggs can undergo changes from the ideal norm. But of course you will and can do an Xray in about 5 days or so, to see if there are indeed any pups in there. If there is only one pup you might not feel anything; and btw it is important to know if there is only one pup! You need an assessment to see if she will be able to free whelp. ie; size of pup versus size of her pelvis.
