Your pups should not even be close to fully weaned yet. Blue Ivy may not be able to tolerate vaccinations at the normal 9- 10 weeks for a first vaccination if she is behind in her development.

I also recommend Vets familiar with toy breeds and yorkies in particular to anyone getting a dog or puppy from me.

| ![]() Yes that is way to young. Then it's 4 weeks in between and rabies at 6 months. It's also against the law to self vaccinate. You have to be a qualified vet. You need to educate yourself if you are planning on doing this right. Sticky note on vaccination protocol. |

| ![]() One of the things I have learned from both Yorkie Talk and reputable breeders (despite the advice from some vets who generalize WAY too much) is to never get a puppy from a breeder who vaccinates too early. Lorraine gave you some great advice here, however another breeder says she only vaccinates at 11 weeks and then evaluates at 12 weeks if the pups are ready to leave their mom, she usually sends pups to their forever homes at an average of 14 weeks of age.

| ![]() The vet that I go to is a veterinarian hospital Dr. Moony. When I took Blue Ivy in with concerns of her hind legs, at the end of visit I asked him when to bring the pups in for their check up and vacs. He said usually he does them between 6 to 8 weeks, so I took it upon my on to say 7 weeks, but I can wait. A lot of the breeders here and the surrounding areas take their dogs to him. I told my new puppy owners to wait till they are 10 weeks before the can come get their baby. They have teeth now and Sasha has stop letting them latch, so I am moistening puppy food with warm water and some soft caned food and letting each one lick off of a spoon. I have to laugh, cause I even put my face close to the bowl to make it seem like I'm eating to see if they will do it, so far three has got it, the others still wants to play tug of war on my shoe laces, shirt and shorts, but we will get it. I leave the food there and another bowl with a little water and I check back and forth to see how much and who is eating pretty good, mommie just looks on the opposite side of the gate and whines till I let her in to eat the remaining. |

| ![]() There are many vets that are just not "expert" at working with small dogs. They work mostly with medium to large sized dogs. A little dog cannot tolerate the same types of treatment as even a 15 to 20 pound dog can. I was blessed to have a vet that was accustomed to working with Yorkies and knew enough to spread out the immunizations to the appropriate times for a puppy her size. While I had small dogs before Gracie she was a considerable bit smaller than even they were. Your mother dog needs to dry up gradually but still have social interaction with the pups. They will stop regarding her as a meal source once they are getting enough food from what you provide them. They need fresh food at least 4 times a day with clean water available at all times. As I'm sure you know you are at the point where you will be providing a lot more care to the pups as mom is not going to do the cleaning up after puppies that are being weaned. It is a lot of work but it is a critical stage in their development. They may be able to survive away from the mom but they truly are still infants and need to stay in that environment until they are more physically and emotionally ready to face the huge change it is for them to go to their forever homes. |

| ![]() I dont know what just happened....I hit some strange button and everything disappeared, so if this ends up a double post, please excuse my ignorance!!! I was saying, it is completely legal to self vaccinate here in the USA...most States still require a vet for rabies vaccinations, but core vaccines are given by breeders quite legally. That is why breeders must be educated in the vaccination protocols. |

| ![]() Yes I have taken on the roll of wiping down my little ones, they go to bathroom and their I am wiping bottoms, I have learned from my groomer to scissor or shave around their tussy, I'm proud of myself for that. Mommie is still with babies and she is such a good mommie, I kind of follow her lead, I just help out when needed. I'm am no where close to giving vacs, so I will listen to my vet and take them at 8 weeks. If he says different then, then I will listen to what he tells me. |

| ![]() Do all respect, since myself have not read. You can call and ask him any questions or concerns that you might have. But I will have to put that one in my IBook library to read. As far as the ten weeks old, the friends and family that they are going to we communicate on a regular basis, I've also talked with other breeders, some say 8 weeks some here say 10 weeks, 12 weeks, it all depends, just watch them close and use good judgment, rather it be 8 10 12 or so on, wouldn't you think? |
