| Any Breeders Around Charlotte NC Who Doesn't Break the Bank??? I'm looking for a breeder close to Charlotte NC. Someone who will not break my pockets in order for me to love again. I'm a mother and student who is in search for another member to our family. Our precious Tinque is in Doggie Heaven and I miss her So Much!!! I never realized how much I depended on her. She was my therapy morning noon and night. We went EVERYWHERE together... Even the MOVIES... Shhhhhh! : ) Now I'm looking for another yorkie, female, no more than 5lbs. I can't afford a million dollar pup. I looked up this breeder and their pups go for about $400.00 which is shocking to me but have my curiosity at hand because I can't afford an expensive dog. I would have to drive a few hours to retrieve her as well. What do you think? Are there any breeders here or near Charlotte NC who are just as affordable? Or maybe another family can't take care of their baby and our home would be a great fit? I looked into rescues but the dogs there are either too big, sickly, and not a right fit for our family. I want to make the best decision that will fit well not only for us but the dog as well. Help bring a smile to our faces and warm love to our potential new member. Thanks! |

| I hope you find your cheap yorkie. I really doubt one that is going for $400 is going to be less than 5 lbs so I hope no matter what yorkie you end up with you will love them no matter what size they get to.

| $400 translates to £257... You would be lucky to get a pup from a puppy farm here for that- and even then probably only a £280 (most common pf price) Ono pup Good luck in our search, but I think it will take time to meet your criteria...

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | My eyes are blurry that's for sure. I've been making loads of Christmas Cookies for a Christmas Cookie decorating party tomorrow night. I think I may have skimmed the post.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | That's another thing if I eat too much sugar my eyes get blurry, so I guess that's a sign the cookies are good! I had to sample them to make sure I was doing the recipe correctly!

| Hello Everyone, I understand the pricing concept, Just don't have $1500-2000 for one. I got Tinque for a couple hundred from a family whom other dog didn't get along with her. She was the sweetest thing! No homework was needed searchig for a breeder. TxVicki, I consider $400 CHEAP as well... Maybe you misunderstood me, I've never seen pups go for that cheap and it raised my curiosity as to why. I'm still searching to see if this person is reputable or not. BelleMarie, Because the price was so cheap, I wondered if it were a puppy mill thing going on? Thanks for the encouragment. My search will continue. So, Hence why I YorkieTalk and perhaps check out some local breeders. I'll continue to play with this site to see if there is a listing. But from what I gather no one is allowed to solicit??? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Sorry, I didn't really answer your post. Yorkies are an expensive breed to buy and to own. The litters are 2-4 pups, unlike some breeds who have 10-12 at a time, and Cesarean is much more likely, which is at least $1000. I've even heard of many single pup pregnancies, and it's a hard breed to breed correctly, and there is much expensive pre-breeding testing to be done. Of course, you can skip all that and find a breeder who doesn't do testing, but just correcting one leg with Luxating Patella costs $1600 to fix, and it's not unusual for them to have two legs with this, so it's important to find a breeder who tests for these things. Also, Yorkies are expensive to own, I’ve had to take Joey to the emergency room twice, where it wouldn't be so important with a bigger dog. A small dog can go downhill fast. Do you have the finances for a spay or neuter or to fix an injured leg should he jump of the couch? Some options are to save until you have more money, or find an excellent breeder and see if she has an older dog she would be willing to sell. Many show breeders hold back a pup thinking it might have show potential, and one small fault can keep it out of the ring, so these can be great buys. Of course, even with this, you probably would be expected to pay around $800. Bottom line, is if you’re on a budget, buying a cheap yorkie can be very expensive. We read all the time here how people can’t afford the surgery their dogs need, and have to give them up to a rescue. There are dogs on Craig's list that cost about $400.00, but this would scare me to death. Hopefully, you could speak with the owners vet before purchasing, otherwise, the dog might have an expensive to treat, illness.

But from what I gather no one is allowed to solicit???[/QUOTE] There is a Forum here called: Yorkie for Sale/Wanted. But I would hope that you will read many of the great articles in the library on how to find a reputable breeder, articles that describe the many and varied and often expensive illnesses Yorkies are prone to. The sick and emergency thread is a real eye opener. Like any pu blic forum, even if you find an ad on here, caveat empor. INvestigate and research this breeder as you would a "stranger" because after all that is what we all are to you It sounds like your first Yorkies was a wonderful healthy example of the breed that wrapped you around her wee heart. I think that if I didn't have the $1500 to $2000 to spend on a Yorkie, first I'd determine what I could afford to spend, then I would immediately budget into my monthly expenditures the cost of a very comprehensive pet insurance plan that covers genetic issues, with no annual limitation or limitation per illness. Can I afford this monthly insurance. Then go down the list of the monthly food, heartworm/flea preventative, winter coats (if needed), annual shots etc. Do I have the money to cover? If so; then Go to www.ytca.org and do their breeder search. Contact a few in a reasonable travel distance to you. Maybe email them about a few of your details, your love for YOrkies, your family situation, your wanting to support a good breeder, etc, and say something like; I know show breeders are often times busy on wkends showing; so I will phone you early next week/Mon/Tues, to speak with you personally. On the phone, Be up front; ask them questions about their breeding program, share your concern with getting a healthy well bred puppy/dog, and ask what their pre breeding tests consist of? Are all their dogs CHIC'd?. Explain you are in no hurry, but are working with a low budget for purchase, but have already investigated Pet Insurance and know that financially on a month by month basis are quite comfortable in providing for this pup. You really want to know about their health guarantee. As a breeder myself I save all emails that actually inquire of me any retired breeding bitches or sires that I may have and am willing to rehome to a dedicated owner? I would place in their home for a nominal fee, after I spay and/or neuter. They still have to fill out the questionnaire, commit to continuing training/obedience work etc. I may not have something this year, but perhaps next year. Also there are young dogs which are promising but at 2yrs old do not pass one or more of the health requirements, or show up with temperament flaws, or any combo thereof. Irrespective of the placement fee, I want to insure the future owner is both emotionally and financially capable of caring, treasuring, and loving any dog I bred.
