| Pups spitting up occassionally from weaning? Or at least this is what the vet said. I spoke with him yesterday, and he said them spitting up is common, when changing foods, because their GI tracks need to get used to the new food. I did switch them to dry solid food 4 days ago, since they're 7 weeks old. He said that, if they're eating and drinking, and aren't depressed then they're fine. Anyone else have puppies spit up during the weaning process? |

| Weaning Yes I have 7 week old pups also. I started them for a week on replacement milk, then a week of replacement milk with a little wet food, then a week of all wet food. They have done great. No spitting up. |

| The only time I've seen puppies spit up is when they over eat. Are they still with momma? They should still be with her and getting some milk from her. Offer canned food or puppy mush several times a day to help with the weaning process but don't take them completely away from momma and switch to dry food only - they won't tolerate that very well and you will have problems. Leave dry food out for them all the time so they can learn to nibble on it but they aren't ready to be on it by itself. You may want to give them a little plain or vanilla flavored yogurt (with live cultures) for a day or two to help with their digestion. Good luck Teresa |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I will add to the post above, that I do wean them very slowly, also I give them a tube of benebac the day I start offering them the puppy mush, which here is goat's milk mixed with soft puppy can food, for a week or two, then I start adding a bit of kibble to that mush, and slowly fade out the milk and the soft food until by week 12 they are fully in kibble 4 times a day.... hugs, |

I agree offerring probiotic (benebac) is one of the best things you can do. I administer it 1/2 tube at birth......and a tube everytime I do any changes. Goat's Milk and Gerber's rice cereal is what I begin with when weaning......then begin offering softened kibble....In addition I offer whelping pudding....great for weaning pups.
