| ![]() http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-pregnant.html In the above thread there were a few questions on the practices here and I for one was wondering if any breeders here had an experience or knew: Are injection abortions done here? Why? I'm pretty sure that a spay is done most often: for abortion and prevent future pregnancy, but also that alternative forms of abortions might be used in cases where: an invasive surgery might be too dangerous for the dog, or if anesthesia is an issue or if the bitch will be used for breeding later if she's to be used for breeding later would surgical abortion be dangerous? Maybe someone could also lend their experience advice in the above thread from the general forum... |

| ![]() If you had a valuable/much needed bitch in your breeding program and there was a mismating...you can go the injection route...giving the breeder another opportunity try for a litter with that bitch...all the injection does is prevent implanting..and must be done in 24 hrs. as I recall. Otherwise, I can think of no other reason to do this...I would always go for a spay. I would not breed a bitch who was too old, anesthesia problems, surgical risk to begin with... A surgical abortion sounds like opening the uterus and removing the pups...and I have never heard of a dog having a D and C...but I also have never had a number one in the breed bitch, so I do not know to what lengths a breeder might go... I believe all human life is sacred..I do not believe all animal life is...I believe in doing what is best for the bitch in question. |
