| Help!!!! Autumn is having contractions but the babies aren't low enough to come soon. How long after contractions start should I look for a puppy? I mean, should I go to bed or should I stay up. I have my hubby to take shifts with. Sylvia |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I would stay up with her. Once the water breaks, then you start looking for a puppy...but the contractions can last for hours.

| I have one of those shallow plastic totes for her to have her babies in but she didn't seem to feel comfortable in it, she kept hopping out. The other day before Lady had her puppies I took up the big bed and washed it so she would have to use the plastic tote. I put the cover back on the bed tonight and put it down for Autumn and she's busy tearing it up. It's tonight for sure. I just don't know how long it will take. I've had to lock all the other dogs away so she can concentrate on what she needs to be doing. Lady bred on Sept. 11 and Autumn Sept. 12. I just realized Lady's puppies are a week old. BTW, Lady's girls are doing great!!! Growing and strong. (Knocking on wood) I so wanted to go to the dog show tomorrow. Sigh. Autumn has to come first. There will always be another show sometime. | labor can last up to about 8 hours (once the water has broke) without harm to the babies (proving there is no pup stuck in the canal). Make sure your mom is not in heavy labor, she should be calm, sleeping in between all should be fine.. If she is in heavy labor and still no pups (panting heavy and throwing her head back) use your own judgement you know your girl. Dont hesitate to call your vet! Hope this helps, congrats and good luck
