You should not feel small; your question was one that many people have asked and many people have different opinions on the subject. Please just keep the questions coming and take in all the answers. It never hurts to hear opinions from breeders and non breeders. Please just don't take them personally. You can learn a lot here.

If you have breeding experience that's wonderful.

However, breeding requires years of study in the breed of your choice. I would begin by finding a mentor of your chosen breed. Yorkies are a challenging breed to breed.

Having all the required testing performed on your breeding stock is of great importance. Having them evaluated to insure they are great representations of the breed is another important step. However, knowing their backgroud is of equal importance. In other words knowing the pedigrees backward and forwards.......every dog within that pedigree and even siblings of those that aren't within the pedigree.

If you aren't breeding to improve the breed then don't proceed.

Let me add we are in bad economic times, if you are breeding for yourself that is expensive in itself. But, if you are breeding to fill a pet market, at this point in time, even the best of the breeders have cut back on their breeding programs.

Where in Texas do you live? The YTCA Roving specialty will be in San Antonio, Texas in July. It would be a great experience for you if you could go watch. I am planning on being there.

I live exactly halfway between Houston and Dallas off of Interstate 45. Very tiny town. I'd love to go!

I think there are 5 days of shows and the specialty is on a Wednesday, July 13. It should be lots of fun. Top yorkies from all over the U.S. will be there. The room rates sound very reasonable.

I just called and made my reservations.....the rates on the flier are for current rates, in July is it $99.99 for a room with two double beds.

I'll be at that show.....You'll get to see some gorgeous dogs from all over the country and other parts. Meet exhibitor/breeders.

I have a female the weighs around 10 pds and I breed her for famlily pets. And so far all the pups have grown to be 5 to 10 pounds and have amazing families. They may not be show dogs but they are great dogs as pets and everyone loves them Hope this helps you and yes she is akc registered just not the desired weight i love her just the same I also own dad and he is seven pounds they have had three litters and he was just neutered and mom will be spayed I kept one of there females in case i want to do it again .

Not so of all exhibitor breeders, I know several exhibitors in your area that sell their Champion's offspring for less that what you sell your dogs for.

I really think all breeding dogs should be tested prior to breeding, not only exhibitor/breeders, all breeders. However, tests only prove that the breeding pair do not have such afflictions it does not prove that they are not carriers. There is no test/genetic marker to give insight to that as yet.

I'm not disagreeing with this statement, but shouldn't that apply to ALL dogs, not just show dogs?

I didn't say that all did,. As for how much I sell my dogs for, that is a wide range from $2000 all the way down to $0000. you can't get much less than that.
