| When I dock my puppies tail I turn them over and clamp the tail past the end of the brown so that I have a little less that 1/4 inch of black past the brown. The reason for this is that I like a little longer tail that just an inch and a half. Rule of thumb for me is to hold the puppy up and then hold the tail and head up, I try to cut the tail so that it is the same height and the head. I use super glue on the tail to seal the wound and leave the clamp on for a minute of two. You can either use regular super glue or go to your vet and get some of their blue skin super glue, it comes in a little one ince tube. For the dew claws I use a finger nail clipper and sulfur sticks to seal them. Hope this is helpful to you.
