| Retrograde ejaculation Im looking for your knowledge and expertise. Have any of you had a male yorkie that has low testosterone, or very low libido? Or a male that when you do semen collection, there is no ejaculate? If so, what was the remedy? Was the problem corrected? What have you done with a male like this? I appreciate any input. |

| I want to know the age also..but if he is at least 18 mos, had numberous chances to breed and it is a no go..I would neuter and look for another stud. Not all males make good stud dogs..some are born, some are made and others are just not worth the worry of having a male who is not reliable. PS..if this male is a champion you have invested a lot of your time and hope in, you can have a repo vet test him...otherwise it would not be worth it to me. |

| He is one year and 5 months old, and had multiple chances to breed. Just licks a couple of times and walks away. No libido. He did have 3 pups a few months ago with one female and has been turning his nose at all else. He did breed with one female on 5 consecutive days when she was prime but no pups resulted. During semen collection you cant get more than .1 cc and that is not a typo. It goes somewhere just not out! Any experienced people with ideas? |

| I have one something like that--- and am still trying to figure out what to do about it. I want to just neuter and place him as a pet but the co-owner insists on keeping her breeding rights. She wants more compensation. This is a dog that had some kind of secret surgery prior to coming here at 9 mos old. There's a scar the co-owner has "no recollection" of. He sired a couple of litters early on, then started alternately losing interest and shooting blanks. I purchased him on a show contract so the disappointment and disillusionment with showing have been severe.

| There are shots you can give the male for increasing libido...also increases sperm count.

| I read that there are a couple of different drugs to administer for 5 days prior to collecting, or trying to get a natual tie, but when there is NO ejaculate, and the sperm goes to the bladder rather than out the penis, what is the point? You can increase the libido, and sperm count, but if the sperm doesnt come out, what? |

| reproduction veterinarians I see you're in Maine, not too terribly far from Boston. There is a clinic in Framingham, Mass, just a little west of Boston, that specializes in reproduction. It's called Slade Veterinary Clinic, or something like that, and I've heard they're very good though not inexpensive. I've exhausted all my normal options with my boy and my vet recommends just cutting my losses and moving on, but he did recommend Slade if I want to pursue other possibilities. My boy produces clear ejaculate sometimes, nothing other times, sometimes can sustain a tie, sometimes not, sometimes just sniffs and walks away. Last month he had three good ties with one of my girls but four weeks later she still has no baby belly, so I doubt the breeding took.

| I definitely understand your frustration. That is exactly what happens here. And no pups, despite good ties on two girls. But he also turns his nose up at most of them. Im going to cut my losses. |

| If I live to be a hundred, I will never underdtand these things...I had a champion male who was the worst stud ever...he produced 3 litters and was neutered..he was very interested in bitches, BUT he would only try twice and if he missed, he stopped and nothing I did would change his mind. Needless to say I made sure all was perfect for his 2 tries... |

| I tried everything to "set the mood". Yes, it is extremely frustrating as well. He is one year and 5 months old. |

| Yorkierose, Have you tried to "collect" from a dog? Sure takes out all that not wanting to try from the equation... I have recently learned and have said over and over...why have I not done this all along...so much easier for me and the dogs... I paid a vet to do it the first time $125.00 not counting the progesterone test on the bitch was I think about 60 bucks...so I learned and I am so glad I did. No more sitting on the floor, no more holding the girl just right, or worrying about the tie hurting her or him twisting , or her pulling him across the floor when you turn your back for one second.
