| Chipper was given to us when he was 6 mos? ~ that was what we were told. My daughter-in-law's sister wanted to make some extra $$ and somehow got hold of about 10-12 puppies, all different breeds, to sell. She kept them in her car! Well, she told us Chipper's sister had died and she had to refund the $$ for her ~ and she couldn't sell Chipper, and did we want him? He ate, he grew, he exercised - and has held his 4lb-6oz well for years - and it's all muscle! He's small, but far from being a tiny ~ I've heard they're all susceptible. We've never regretted that day! Neutered, no papers, no past ... but intelligent, active, and healthy except 11 yrs. later he still has an occasional seizure ~ he is our love.

I am not a breeder but I own 4 yorkies who are under 5 lbs in weight and most of us who love this breed and own yorkies know the risks and what to look for to keep them healthy. Hypoglycemia attacks can occur in any young puppy who misses a meal or goes more than 4 hours without food no matter what their size and therefore most, especially the smaller ones, are supervised closely and are supplemented with nutrical or honey or karo syrup in between feedings as a precaution until they are 16 weeks or so without an episode. I syringe fed my daughter's baby every 4 hours (even through the night) when he was 11 weeks old because he was so small and got a tummy ache and refused to eat. I wouldn't want to scare anyone out of owning a yorkie under 5 lbs for this reason alone however. I would advise letting the breeder keep a smaller baby until 16 weeks or even longer until they are past the most dangerous period, but they are a joy and a pleasure to own and love and care for and all the hard work and worry is more than worth it for the right person who understands the need and commitment involved imo. It is true that not everyone should own a yorkie, much less a smaller than typical yorkie, but if you have the time and commitment to put into it, I highly recommend it for what you will get in return will be priceless.

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | He is adorable!! You won't regret keeping him! Cali had a similar episode two days after I got her even with my diligence. I got her at 9 weeks and I agree they need to stay with their moms until 16 weeks of age. |

My husband and I just bought a little female Yorkie puppy on November 1st. I had her checked out my the vet and everything looked good. This past Monday, November 7th my little Bella went into hypoglycemic shock. I took her to the vet right away as you did. The vet was not sure if Bella was going to make it or not. We brought her home Monday night and yeterday she did just fine. I had her eating every 3-4 hours the soft food the vet sent us home with. This morning I had to take Bella back to the vet because she was up ALL night getting sick and she has not diarreah. When I bought her she was 1 lb. 2 oz. I am very worried about her health and well being. Can you offer any other suggestions. This is our first Yorkie and we really love her so much already in this short amount of time. I look forward to hearing from you soon! Sincerely, Jennifer (Bella's Mom)

We nursed, fed, neutered and exercised him, and today he is just as intelligent, healthy and active as ever, and he's held his weight, 4.6lbs. for years. .... This year he's developed a shrunken ecephogus and uses an inhaler 2x daily, and is on arthritus meds ~ but we've never regretted the day we adopted him, he is our love. I so hope your Baby will "outgrow" the seizures/Hypoglycemia, but if he doesn't he'll claim a special place in your heart for his own. Babies with special needs have a way of doing just that. Maybe I'll get to meet him one of these days!

| Baby is doing absolutely perfect! he now weighs 1.4lbs at almost 10 weeks old Trina was a miracle and god send! Nutra cal is fine for small things but Nurtidrops are fast acting one dose last 8 hours at a time, the most worrisome is when we all go to sleep, you never knew what you were going to wake up to, the nurtidrops give you a bit of peace of mind. Also I fed him baby rice ceral, mixed with babyfood chicken and karo syrup 4 times a day along with the nursing on Trina. Now he is eating his dry, real chicken and long grain rice and of course still hanging on the teat! I expect that the episodes are over and he will be fine now maybe even make over 3lbs adult weight time will tell! here are some pics I took today, what a change!
