Registries? What's the difference?

Who knows...I'm sure in many cases it's because the dog was sold with limited regsitration or because they don't adhere to the AKC's stricter rules.

I know that one of mine only had CKC registration when I got her. Both her parents were AKC reg, but the breeder (or rather her daughter) was only interested in competing in fun agility events, which they always did through CKC. I was on a waiting list for a dog from her and she offered to register the litter with AKC, but I told her not to bother. At the time, I really didn't see what the big deal was. I considered before going back and getting her AKC reg, but at this point, I figured, what does it matter, ya know?

Interesting. I'm glad a breeder needs to be contacted because I would hate to think any buyers are just trying to get around agreements they may have with a breeder. I'm in no way suggesting that's the case here, I was just curious in general how it would work.

Oh I completely agree. Now, that is what is supposed to happen from everything I can tell. Whether or not those procedures are actually being followed, who knows? But I can definately see where it is cause for concern and what many who are dishonest are seeing as a loophole and a way to 'sneak in the back door' so to speak. The end result would be the loss of AKC's reputation for being the "preferred, best" registry.

Maybe. I'm not familiar with that world at all, so I just described what I read from the AKC site long ago.
