| Gizzy is expecting any time now, Need some pointers! Hi all! Sorry I have not been on in a while, lost internet and been working a lot. I bred my 2yr 5lb yorkie, Gizzy with a different stud, Chuey. This time I know she has taken. We can hear the heartbeats of the little pups and also feel them moving around She is 60 days into her pregnancy and I would like to know what to do if she does have any difficulty during delivery. We do not have that much money for a service call from the vet. I was wondering, is there a list of things we need to get to prepare for the arrival of the pups? If so, what? Dana, sister of Gizzy |

| Good luck Hi GizzyDoc, Assuming you have prepared a whelping box and the usual neccessary kit. An honest answer will be: Yes sometimes things do go wrong and there is no alternative answer; you either rush to a vet or you may lose the bitch and the puppies. Being an optimistic person I assume that all goes well. Your presence and love during whelping will ease the bitch's tension. Good luck. |

| We had a counter full of supplies when Trixie delivered...something for every possibility, although the only time we had to intervene was to cut the cords when she didn't. Just a quick list of what we had incase: child scissors (cutting cords), alcohol (sterilize scissors), dental floss (tying cords), iodine (end of cords after cut), artificial puppy milk (just incase she wouldn't nurse them), 'snot sucker,' (don't know the real name, sorry) and LOTS of clean towels. In case she has trouble, i.e, puppy is stuck, lots of pushing with no results, get her to the vet ASAP, better go ahead and look up the emergency vet #, just in case...better get on it, you are strapped for time to prepare! |

| Welcome to YT. I hope you have been doing some reading up on all this instead of waiting for the 11th hour. Most vet's will take payments on emergency situations. There is alot to know when delivering, as how to pull a puppy correctly if you need to, not to pull out her uterus. To know how long is two long when she does start her labor, before needing to seek a out a Vets help. Where to cut the cord, so the mother will not continue to chew on it and do harm to the puppy, slinging the puppies to clear the lungs... I could go on. Try to stay calm, the mother will pick up on your emotions. This is not meant to scare you but to prepare you. Please keep us posted on how she does.
