Is she gonna have puppies??? I took my lil Gracie to the vet a week ago or so and they told me she isnt preggy..they did not ultrasound but felt her and just said no way..NOW she is leaking milk and I thought the weight gain was from me feeding her like crazy as she was only 4 lbs when I got her from a back yard wench who was abusing her. Is she pregnant? |

Ultrasounds can be misleading at early timeframes. Is her vulva swollen? Is she at a safe weight and health you could schedule a spay now? Talk to your vet see what he/she says, bring her in for a check-up. How much does she weigh now? A week or so ago she was 5lbs something. |

IDK...I took my girl into the vet at day 49 (i think) and they palpated her abdomen and said they didnt feel any pups at all, but did feel pregnancy fluid in the horns. Have you felt puppy movement? it would be worth the expense getting an x-ray to make sure. If she was pregnant, about how far along could she be? |
shes 8 lbs and i have a spay set up for the 3rd.. she is sleepin alot.. shes gained 4 lbs in the time ive had her... and getting fatter |

I think she got her about 2 weeks ago. ETA: Yep! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...site-help.html |
If she would have been due the 28th and your not feeling strong puppy movements, I'd think it was a false pregnancy. IDK....thats a lot of weight to gain in 2 weeks. If you want to be certain, take her in for an x-ray. |
I cant get her to another vet till monday..Ill get her there then if I have to go swinging my arms like a mad woman... thanks everyone...I thought for sure if she was leaking it met she was with puppies... guess Ill just have to wait... I got everythign that was listed at me before about whelping in case she is and goes before monday. |

Is there anyone near to you experienced with whelping? At this point any kind of breed will do, but if you just so happen to have a small breed breeder that would be best. Probably this is a false pregnancy, she feels safe n secure, and got lots of good food to eat, so was able to put on a lot of weight in a short time. My fingers n toes are crossed for you. Please keep us updated. |
I can both feel and see her tummy move. She cant lay and stay still..she moves about alot.. Shes been leaving me alot.. Gracie is always where I am .. At the PC by me or in the TV room ..any place I am but the last two or three days she has been leaving me to go upstairs alone or in the den alone. Shes been crawling under the blankets. I have cases throw away chux,Gloves etc, alot of nursing supplies due to my job. No to the light..I do not have those ..I have heating pads if that is of any help? I only know people who have had dogs that they werent bright enough to get fixed. I dont know anyone who really knew a thing about the pet they owned. thats why I joined YT. |
are you feeling strong movements or flutters? My girl is 62 days. I can feel heads and legs moving around in there. When she relaxes her tummy, I can feel their positions. Its obvious to me cuz I know my girl's abdomen. do you have a bulb syringe to clean out mouths and noses? Thats gotta be nerve wracking for you. |
can feel lumps moving but nothing I can tell is a limb head or all that! yes I have nasal aspirators. and yes my nerves are wrecked cuz I was told she was NOT with pups ..I have her set to be spay on the 3rd. Shes resting well right now. |
I'm thinking that if you are seeing the stomach move when she's lying still, then she's definitely going to have pups. It also sounds like she is trying to nest. Do you have an area that you can set up as a whelping box? Some place quiet and warm. Turn off the a/c to the area if you have too. |
Do you have the number of an emergency vet handy? Just in case. I remember they told you no, but I don't remember if they xrayed her. |
yes I do.. I have a cage I put dogs I find loose in till they get picked up by the owners or till I know they are safe to have near my pets. I can set that up in one of the rooms..I have a 15 room house and dont have AC running to all of them. Any other things I should do? Does the leaking mean that she will have pups soon IF she is ? |
No Xrays were done.. Vets number I have speed dial but they arent ER vets here in this tiny town. |

Instead of the cage, it might be better if you can find a low sided box that you can line with chux and towels. You want something that you can get to her quickly in, and the bars may pose a risk to getting a puppy caught. Do you have a rectal thermometer so you can check her temp? I'm not sure on the leaking. I'm going to go post something on the front page to see if any of the breeders are on the board right now. ETA- Scratch that. Mardelin is here to save the day! |
Its a service that will let someone know what my problem is and I will get a call when ever . Yes I have the list and I have all but the light of things... Will heating pads help? I thank U so much Mary ... I just wonder if shes gonna have pups before Monday. |
She claimed a box the other day..Ill use that! |

Do you have an extra set of hands to help you? |
thank you all so much.. |
You'll need to be able to recognize her going into labor, whether you handle the delivery or take her to the vet. This site will help you. It will also tell you some common signs of distress. Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping Supplies needed to deliver puppies. |
I have cases of Chux ... I have a goose neck light..two of them and I have boxes as I just bought this house and will never be done unpacking...should I use both the heat pad and light or just the light? |
Ok woogie man..Thank you..I have delivered kittens before . I will watch that movie now... thanks again |
Here's a crash course on what to look for: 3 stages of labor: first stage- Uterine contractions, dilation of cervix, abdominal discomfort, panting; may last 3 to 6 houirs. The dam may refuse to eat and may have loose stools or a water bag may appear. 2nd Stage - Expulsion of the fetal sac (water bag). This is no reason to panic. The dam may take long naps with the water bag just lying at the vulva with occasional contractions for two or three hours and still be okay. If she is pushing steadily for an hour with no results and nothing in the vaginal canal, you should get in touch with your vet. The pup's head or tail may be presented first. It is perfectly normal to have posterior presentation. Do not interfere too quickly. Encourage her to continue pushing. Third Stage - Expulsion of the fetal membranes. The placenta (after-birth) should pass after each pup. Please observe if a placenta has not passed for each pup and notify your vet. The bitch should have an injection of Posterior Oxytocin Pituitary (POP) if she has retained a placenta. Complications: If the dam has been pushing hard and steady for half an hour and there is no pup in sight, put on a surgical sterile gove and insert your finger in the vaginal canal to feel if there is a pup in the canal. This is called "feathering" and sometimes will make the bitch get down to business and push some more. If the pup is right there, another few pushes should get it out. If not, alert your vet immediately. Other danger signs before, during, and after whelping - Call Your Vet - Clonstant hard labor for more than an hour with no results - Green or odorous discharge from the vulva (be very concerned if this happens before the first pup is whelped. - An interval of two hours between pups with occasional hard labor - Any part of a pup stuck or protruding from the vaginal canal - One hour of hard labor and no puppies - Three hours withj no labor between pups and you think there is another pup. |
