This is what every breeder should be concerned with! Health should always be a breeders NO.#1 concern, but for many the money they place into their pockets is more important rather it be a standard colored yorkie or a parti colored yorkie. I personally do have issues with so many breeders preaching about the ytca, as I personally know and have bought from ytca breeders who do NO testing on their breeding stock or the off springs their breeding stock produces. So if the ytca is the elite club for the yorkshire terriers and they set the standards for the breed (which they want every breeder to follow) they should also set a good example of breeding healthy stock along with doing the proper testing needed to confirm their stock is healthy! | Well I certainly emphasize with your concern. I personally don't know the ins and outs of what is required to become both a) a member of the YTCA and b) a referred breeder.
Our club has instituted a voluntary health program called CHIC wherein we submit to the club all results of breed specific tests. It will become the one place you can check on sires/dams, to see if they have a CHIC number and then all test results will come up to your eyes. For eg: CERF, OFA, Hyperuricosia, heart and thyroid. What an idea. One place to look, instead of going through how-ever many databases to get the health results on one potential stud or bitch.
IMHO all health testing should be mandatory and by the breed club. The breed club should issue these are the health tests we have judged to be mandatory for the Yorkshire Terrier, and here are more tests that we highly recommend you do.
If as a breeder you don't agree to this, then sorry... you can not be a member |
