Default AKC employee identification

Anyone know what an AKC employee's identification card should look like? Is there a picture of one anywhere online?

I had a AKC representative come here last month for an inspection and I looked at his card but I can't really remember that much about it. It was a picture id and it had The American Kennel Club on it from what I remember. I also got his business card. During our conversation he did tell me that last year there was someone going around to breeders homes posing as an AKC Representative. He said they thought is was PETA members but the people were never caught.

If you have a representative that you are in doubt about then you could always ask their name and call AKC before letting them in your home. The representative will always wear plastic coverings over their shoes and they carry a laptop so they can log on AKC's website and check your dog records on the spot.

I usually have 7 litters a year and I have been inspected 3 times over the past 5 years. All three times everything checked out perfect. I really appreciate AKC and the job they are doing.

Thanks for replying. We just had our first inspection and I wondered before the rep got here what the id was supposed to look like because I have heard there are people posing as AKC field reps and I just wanted to be sure. But, I recognized the rep's face as soon as I saw her from a show I was at last year, so there was no doubt. She showed me her id and gave me her card, too. So, no worries at all.

Default Number of litters??

I'm new here and trying to learn all I can about this beautiful breed, so I've read quite a few of the threads. From the show breeders I've talked to most don't have 7 litters a year and these are people that show their dogs!!
I'm just curious as to how many other "breeders" on here have 7 or more litters a year and don't show their dogs because they can't afford to??

Most of the show breeders I know do not have more than maybe 3 to 4 litters a year. Most breeders that don't show their dogs and have more than 6 litters are more concerned with selling puppies than improving the breed but again that is just my opinion and I could be wrong but why would anyone want more than 3 to 4 litters a year anyway?

I guess I don't know what you are asking or where that question came from. BJH shows her dogs if that's what you are referring to.

A breeder, even a "show breeder", can have a litter every 2 years or 10 litters a year, depending on how many dogs they have, how hard they are working on their lines, etc. There is no "magic number" for number of litters per year. As long as there is a healthy spacing between litters and the bitches are all being well cared for and loved, sheer number of litters means nothing to me.

My favorite breeder has about 15 adults at any given time - multiple champions, Eukanuba and Westminster wins, always has a dog in the top 10 in the nation, etc. All of her dogs are very well cared for, and loved unconditionally. She has a litter about every 2 months but always has a waiting list for show puppies and a list for pet puppies that continues to grow because she doesn't end up with pet puppies very often.

I know several "GOOD" show breeders that do have a larger amount of litters a year but they also have money to afford kennel help.
As long as you have help and can afford help it's ok to have that many litters in a year...but most don't have the money for kennel help nor the expenses that go for a top notch kennel without a LOT of money and help....most breeders that breed more litters a year do not have top notch kennel help but if I'm wrong then please correct me and I will apologize.
As for BJH...she hasn't shown a yorkie in a couple of years and still new to exhibiting in the yorkie show ring since I've been showing BUT she has bred yorkies longer than I have but not show yorkies, Barabra I hope I'm not speaking out of turn here but I just want to make sure those people reading know you don't show much and still new to the yorkie show ring.

I don't mean to offend anyone unless they're breeding for profit. The breeder you're referring to has proven their dogs in the ring and has a waiting list for puppies before they are born and don't have adds in www.southeasttexas.com where I became acquainted with bjh.

bjh told me she does't show her dogs because she can't afford to. I have also seen a post on YT where she said the same thing. You would think that someone who says they've been breeding Yorkies for 13 yrs would have had at least one show quality dog, if that's what you're breeding for.

I wonder how many other breeders on YT have 7 or more litters a year?

Agreed Donna,

There are the Betty Anne/Durrer; the deseased Roberta Rothenbach/Rothby; Marie Kaufman Cordona/Parkside; Ava Tyree/Tyava and others that have or had larger scaled kennels as was done in the past by most great breeders, breeding any breed. However, these people have tons of help, state of the art kennels and breed with expertise, they know how do breed. These breeders pump out Champions, BOB, BIS, BISS dogs consistently; they breed with a purpose in mind, to improve the breed, not breeding a multitude of litters to sell pups. But, you see these people in the ring continously.

I've been away from showing in the Texas region for a couple of years, but go twice year to show. I don't ever recall seeing or hearing of BJH in the ring. I've been told she has shown a couple dogs minimally, but never has Championed one.
