Yes tails were docked yesterday and I thought it might be that. Compresses helping with massage, milk is white. Temp going down to 102.0. She has been up and out of the box more today and got some exercise. And she's eating and drinking. Discharge is bloody stringy and I think normal, she is self cleaning. As for antibiotics, how does that effect the pups ? BTW shaking has stopped, will continue with calcium foods

Moms temp being higher and fussy pups could be that they are too hot. Is it the kennel kind with the temp regulator? I had a fussy litter and panting mom once and could not figure it out. After 2 vet visit (where pups and mom got better at the vets..just like my skinkids did) I figured it out. I had it too hot in there. But not alway the case..
Your mom was shaking, panting, nipples hard, and fussy pups. If after vet says all is well, do a process of elimination and try turning down the heat, keep massaging and manually expressing a little milk 3 times a day and use warm compresses, weigh babies daily. Keep up the good work but do not let your guard down for even a minute cause moms and pups fail rapidly and without warning sometimes.

Thank you and will do. No heat pad last night, room warm and they were between Husband and I (added warmth). Pups on average have gained about 2 oz since birth. Everyone is latching on, luckly for her no more than 2 feed at a time. Fat boy (the largest, noisiest) boots all the others off their teets just because, so I keep an eye on him. Like I said mom not shivering anymore (only this morning and it was cooler, DH warmed her up) and pups quieter this afternoon and temp lower. I'll keep up the compresses and massage. Yes they are. I think now she is the backwards dog, yesterday she starrted seriously nesting. Crazy digging, on bed, under bed, DH laundry on floor, didn't do it before babies, weird huh!

Nesting and digging...a bit of strange behavior.....can be pre-eclamptic behavior....I'd seriously think of getting her to the vet.

Oh for gosh sake, I hate to be an alarmist when it comes to to vet. Believe me I know you are the expert, but today temp 101.8, teets not warm anymore and much more plyable, she's ate twice this morning, finally snuck some pumpkin in her food for loose stools, she's active, and still has a mild discharge (normal looking, no funny colors). Do you really think she has a problem? She didn't really nest until the day she had the pups, her temp never changed, only sign of labor was panting, and a slight wimper...it's her first litter. Her last heat was a false pregnancy.

You posted her unusual behavior and by all means I am no expert. However, I do err on the side of caution. Especially after the whelp, the first after is a dangerous time for the pups and mom. So, being an alarmist at the vet, that's the least of my worries, my girl is # one. My motto is if I keep the mom healthy and happy her pups are happy and healthy and it keeps me from hand raising a litter. I'm of the school, if I have a situation that I'm unsure of that my mentor is unfamiliar with I go with my vet.

If the mom and pups are in bed with you.? .it could be that she is upset or too warm, and is getting agitated because of this.
My moms like me to be with them and handle their babies, but some are more nervous about their babies and when they have newborns need their own bed.
Digging after birth is an indication that the mom is upset or sick.
If her temp is down and you dont feel it is medical, you might want to look at where she is sleeping. A quiet, darker place will help her settle down.

She was in her whelping bed on our bed, but last night I put them on the floor. We were worried about being too cool, but the temp was 70-74 most of the night. everyone seemed ok with it. Less fuss, less digging (although she's still doing it). I'm still watching her temp 101.1 and pups seem to be steadly gaining weight. Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't think she would want to be that far away from me. My bad
