It sounds like she is very, very close and I am hoping for a safe and easy whelp for you. |
Thank you both:) Her temp is back to 99.3?? and now shes happy to be on the couch. Does it still sound like it might be tonight? If it isn't I think I'm going to have to bring her to the vet, we're pretty sure this is day 65 |
Is this day 65 from first breeding or last? I know this waiting is really, really hard (harder on you than on your girl) but if she is not overdue from the last breeding and does not seem to be stressed, it is really better for everyone to just let nature run it's course. As Mardelin said " it will happen when it happens". :D I know from experience, that after a week or so of just sitting there staring at your little girl, you start to feel a little wonky. |
Look out for middle of the night puppies! My girls are notorious for it! Lol.......I remember my first litter of puppies. Poor Cassie with a thermometer stuck up her b*** all the time. I had to quit doing that, it drove me nuts and her too! We were both a couple basket cases. I didnt sleep at all. Just like Mardelin said she got all glassy eyed, would get up, then lay down, Like Winston said, then stretch out. She certainly sounds like she is getting ready. FOr fun IM gonna guess what time I think she will have them to entertain myself. hummmmmmmmmmmmmm hows about 1130pm tonight, your time. Stay calm and enjoy. Its really an exciting time. Can be scarey but you will do fine.:) |

It would be much easier for us all to help you if we knew how many days from the first breeding and how many from the last breeding. I think I saw a post that said that your little girl was bred over a nine day period. If this is the case, she, in fact may not be due yet. Also the best indicators of an impending whelp are not the temperature but the other symptoms, like shivering or nesting behavior, refusing to eat, hiding, etc. I know it is really hard to wait and like I said you start to feel a little wonky after a while, but it is in the best interest of your little girl to just sit it out and wait if she seems happy and healthy. Talk to your vet, if you like but I am sure he or she will just tell you to sit tight.:) |
Haha thanks for all the support. I really do hope it happens tonight - I've been getting up twice a night for five days already to check on her and make sure she doesn't go and have them while we're sleeping. Every day she shows a few more signs and I get thinking "ok, today's the day", you're right, I'm a little more crazy than she is right now lol. Since the breeding period of 9 days has been brought up again - WHEN should I consider these pups overdue? Having them too overdue really scares me for both him and her, it can be really dangerous if they go too long. |

Her temp is still low, and she vomited but is still interested in "good food" if I give it to her. Shes always been an eater, love anything and everything. She hasn't eaten her regular food today though |
So what you can do is check all your whelping supplies, all the special food you need, sterilize bottles, nipples, syringes, and place in baggies. Make sure you have lots of supplies to line the whelping box. Extrs bulbd for heat lamp. Tons of clean towels. Stock up your freezer with human food - frozen lasagan, chinese, whatever you like to eat. If you like to bake to it now and freeze baked stuf.. Stock up on coffee and juices for yourself and the family. Make sure you have lots of vitamins for yourself, look into buying some energy vitamins. Make sure you keep your car full of gas. Go to library get books and or videos to read/ watch. In otherwords keep busy with practical and usefull things. Best of luck for a great whelp |

Get the following recipe ready for her to have during whelping and immediately after: 1 can goats milk equip parts of distilled water 1 tablespoon Karo Syrup 1 egg yolk, well beaten. Keep in the fridge. If she doesn't whelp within the next 48 hours, make a new batch. |

I start going through my supplies about 3 weeks in advance. That way if I need addtional meds I can order them in plenty of time. |
I would stay home at this point and wait... |
