| ![]() I don't have any insight as to how the vaccine affects the liver, etc, but I know that I took Jackson for his 2nd set of puppy shots at 12 weeks old (1st ones since I had owned him)... the vet didn't really explain much, and I simply trusted her... I got him home and within 5 minutes he was throwing up terribly, lethargic and couldn't barely walk. So immediately we drove right back to the vet, and he seemed to be worse. I thought I was losing him! The vet said it was definitely the lepto he had a reaction to and after looking online afterwards about how small dogs shouldn't generally get lepto... I was pretty pissed she had never mentioned any risks!

One thing I have read lately though is the newest Lepto vac is supposed to immunize against 4 different strains of the disease, the older one only covered 2 strains, and they think it was the debris in the solution that is the culprit causing the bad reactions. So they say they have cleaned it up a bit to remove the debris and therefore they claim it is now safer for smaller dogs and puppies. I definitely won't be trying it for a year or two, I'll wait and see how it does. (This report cited results from Banfield... something like 1% out of 200,000 vacs given had a problem.... Didn't know we were part of a study? ![]() ![]()
