| Diarrhea remedies safe for expecting mummies? My little girl is due on Sunday so this week I switched her over to a canned dog food with lots of meat in it (thinking the extra protein and calories might be good for her). Well of course my little boy (daddy) sees everything so I always gave him a small portion of it as well since I couldn't give her "The good stuff" and not him lol. Anyways STUPID mistake to switch their food so suddenly, both have developed horrible frequent nasty diarrhea and have had it over the past 2-3 days. Needless to say I have stopped with the canned food and left them to eat their puppy kibble but is there anything I can give them to add some bulk to their stools? (particularly something SAFE for a dog about to give birth that won't upset her stomach farther?). My mother in law always suggested to hold of the doggie food for a half a day or so and then slowly increase portions to let their stomachs settle - but at this time in her pregnancy I don't want to deprive her of anything she needs. Please help, they stink, my little boy got poop in his hair right on his forehead (dont ask me how), I've been bathing them twice a day and they still have poo-butts, plus I don't want to aggravate my expecting mama and my house stinks like something awful - I've had ENOUGH poo for this week. Oh - and both are getting plenty of water, I've been making sure that they get enough (when I boiled some chicken I added some of that water to theirs so that it tasted good - not sure if this is making it even worse! but at least they are drinking. |

| Thanks. I'll call the vet first thing in the morning. At first I had assumed that the diarrhea was because she was about to give birth (typical) but then noticed that my little boy had it too and realized it was food related. Poor guys. |

Diarreah in a female usually happens at the onset of labor, but does not continue through an extended period of time.

| Plus, the best thing to give the expectant mommy is a high grade puppy food, not adult dog food.

| You can give them a tablespoon of pure canned pumpkin a couple times a day. Your can add a tiny bit of Karo syrup to it to make it taste better. Some dogs will readily eat it and others you have to stick it in their mouth. The left over canned pumpkin you can freeze and save for another time. Just drop it by the spoonful on wax paper or foil to freeze and then put it in a ziplock bag after it is frozen. The pumpkin works for both diarrhea and constipation. I hope they make a speedy recovery. Please let us know what the vet says. |

On another note, just took little mummy to be's temp and it was 99.1, the lowest it has been so far. Shes been hovering around 99.5 so this is not a significant drop for her, but I'm definitely on puppy watch. So far no behavior changes. She is due tomorrow | |
