| keeping bitch and stud apart during heat When it is time to skip a heat and keep a female and male apart, what do most of you do to keep your sanity and their's at a minimum during this time. One idea was to kennel the stud. But there has to be some others. thanks for all ideas!!!!! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | keep them seperate. If the bitch is kenneled, let the stud out and vice versa. It can be pretty hectic...especially if you have howelers. Either that or board one or the other or ask a friend to watch your stud till it's over with

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I've always wondered that - now I see why some people have only females and some only males - |

| breeding This is the number one reason there are so many accidental breedings. My males did not live in the same part of the house and they rarely mixed. If anyone ever gets an AKC inspection, they will frown on males running free with females..you can get a fine...I only got a warning some years back. AKC can choose to inspect any breeder they please..it is not true that they only contact high volume breeders. I had two friends who an AKC "look see" and they had each bred ONE litter that year. Most are in the 5 or more litters per year catagory. I was inpsected 3 times in 30 yrs..the first time I only had 4 litters that entire year. |

| My boys always lose weight during this time, their focus not on food. We keep them separated by a closed door. Currently we have two girls in heat, they are in our bedroom and the others are in the kitchen and dining room area. A couple of times a day we switch them so the girls can run outside and play with the others. We have 3 boys and 5 girls, so it's not a fun time. It's not just the boys that want at the girls but the girls are wanting also. The ones in the bedroom generally are peeking under the door.

| I bought myself a nice size cage and each furball is getting use to being in there. When the time comes and Petey is old enough and I don't want the girls to get pregnant, he will either go in his cage or I'll send him to my brothers house.

| It is really hard to keep them a part . I know I have 1 male and 1 female. But it is a must if you are not going to breed them Because it only takes one sec and I know a lot of people say but I only let them together one time. well thats all it takes. We even put up a gate. and that dont even help some times. If there a way out they will find it. |

We have our house sectioned off, boys in the back, girls in the front and then there is the occasion when they all run and play together. Girls in heat or delivering, get to be in the bedroom with us. I may have to reconsider this if they continue to come in together............going crazy in NY. Well the house will be full in December when three litters are born.

| I missed it! WHY do some people have only females and some only males??? I bred Mini and Mickey twice, on her 9th day and her 12th, as Mini's Breeder instructed me. Lucky for me, Mickey lives with my son's family. Mini is due to whelp in 3-4 days, and Mickey still wants to mount her whenever they visit! In fact, my Chipper (11 years old and long since neutered) will try to mount!

| I switch them around also. AND, I put belly bands on the boys and they have not gotten them off ------yet! I wasot planning to breed Chrystel with Remi and I was so careful with keeping them-Chrystel and the 3 males- apart. Well, on day 17 hubby got absent-minded and I was upstairs and I heard scuffling. I came flying down yelling "What the he++ is going on?" Answer "They're just playing!" Yeah, right. Playing like they were gonna be mommie and daddy... I will say that I am not upset because I proved a male, proved a female, and got some of the most gorgeous babies... |

| LOL I couldn't stop laughing. Male Yorkies can really get going on the howling, moaning, singing, whatever you want to call it. Some male Yorkies can even climb baby gates and fences. I had a male in the bathroom with 2 baby gates, one on top of the other, and to my amazement I saw him climb right over it in a matter of seconds. Needless to say, that won't ever happen again. I also use the belly band and it works great, however, I wouldn't leave a male unattended with one on if there was a female in heat. I use the belly band on the male year round. He thinks he is marking my furniture-he he! |

What we have been using is an oral medication called Mibolerone for our female. It works like birth control -- at least we have had luck with it. Special ordered via our vet. We administer a small amount to her every day. She had a very slight heat cycle last time and he was none to interested. Another alternative anyway. Good luck. Tracy | |
