| Artificial Insemination For some reason I always that thought that AI was done when the stud was "older" or perhaps in a different geographical area than the dam. Does any breeder here use AI because they prefer it to "the natural way" even when both dogs are in the same geographical area and could be bred the conventional way? |

The breeding of two virgin dogs, a difficult breeding to accomplish. AI is faster, quicker and much more sanitary way to accomplish a breeding, if done correctly. However, there are some AKC rule changes for AI breeding.

| I think the AKC just changed it so that you don't have to AI with shipped semen through a Vet. I had good AI results and would do it again.

| I want to learn how to do it. I have a good friend in my home country who had a very hard time getting his female dachshunds pregnant and achieved great success with AI . They are all show dogs and he had disappointments until started AI. He tells me all the time. I never used it my self. My vet does not have experience also , i asked. XOXO

| Our Aussie traveled to Kansas (from TX) to breed but the breeder ended up having to use AI for her. Don't know the exact "terminology" but it was her first time and what is it called... she had a "stricture" I believe. We will be using the same stud again in a month or so. Not sure which way the breeder will go this time but I actually thought the AI was a lot less stressful on her. I think I would actually choose to do the breeding that way.

Also if the male or female are inexperienced it is easier and less stressful for both. Size of the male or eagerness of the male. I have spent many hours watching and waiting for a male to tie with a girl. Sometimes they just are not "into" a certain female and it is either AI or miss the breeding. I know of a breeder of Labs here that only does AI with his dogs. No dogs are bred naturally, and no OOPS litters are born. He will stud his males out, but will only do it AI. That way no stds are passed from one to the other. Learning to AI is simple but must be done in a sterile manner. I was taught by my vet, however so far have chosen to let her have the honors for that.... of which she thanks me for..lol...I have bred dogs, birthed them, tube feed babies, cut tails and dewclaw, etc. I however have decided that the $125 that is costs to do an AI is well worth it | |

| Tanners mom I do AI And my studs and bitches are here and could breed but i don't let them. This way i can control the pain and upsetment of both dogs. I feel that this is safer and no one gets hurt, and it faster then waiting 15 to 25min for the male to finish.LOL!!! So much easer. Good Luck!! |

| Well, i wish i was near someone who knows how to do it, and do well , and could teach me... My vet is wonderful every way ... but he feels funny about it and has never done... he laughed when i asked ... kkkk... I can do everything else too, the tail and dewclaws even assist the vets on C-sections, however i also rather pay the vet to do it . I do not enjoy it that much. The natural birth i enjoy , although stressful ... c-sections... yuck... very worrisome for anyone i think, even my vet who does the best thinks it is stressful, planned or not. Anyways, i am not sure i would use AI or would feel funny, but learning is never too much, i would like to learn from someone who does it well. Some day ... maybe , there aren't many breeders here in my area. XOXO

| K with that being said here is a story.....LMAO Took a male of a breeders to my vet to ummm collect. My previous vet there was male and I adore him, he always got the job done. Well the new one is female and upper crust type if you know what I mean. I am of the real people type, so I cannot help myself by asking her if she was going to pop in a movie or something for the little guy. The look on her face was hysterical. Wish I had a video camera at that point. Now she has done this many times in another practice and has never had a male not give her a sample. Well this little guy was quite shocked when she started, and continued to look at her like she was some horrible person. Needless to say we did not get to collect a specimen. Even after being there for 2 hours 2 days in a row! |

| People already roll their eyes at me when I say I warm up my dogs food or cook them a special treat. They'd send me to a psychiarist for help if I ever tried to "collect" a specimen. |
