There are several reasons AI is used by breeders. Frozen Seaman, when the stud is not in the same geographical location as the female and shipping the female is not an option.

The breeding of two virgin dogs, a difficult breeding to accomplish.

AI is faster, quicker and much more sanitary way to accomplish a breeding, if done correctly.

However, there are some AKC rule changes for AI breeding.
