| my neutered male is still able to lock!! hi, i'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to post this (being new n all) but i hope someone can help me!! my male chi, dexx, was a rescue- my breed mentor sometimes gets unwanted dogs handed over to her (or tied to her gate) and she asked me if i could take him... he was about 3 and intact... i got him neutered immediately (what with having my yorkie girls) but he can still lock! he caught kuki today and he is VERY big for a chi and shes quite small- her feet wouldn't completely touch the ground! i don't want to have to spay my girls as they are health tested and perfect dogs (and currently in show trainning) but with bambi being smaller than kuki (i'm not 100% sure about breeding her but my mentor and vets all say she'd be a good size- shes long) my vet says the only solution he knows of would be to literally cut it off and gave him a fake one for weeing, but thats far too extreme! have any of you ever encountered this problem and do you know of any herbal or hormone treatments that would stop him without causing damage? i can't keep them seperate as i live with my granny who doesn't remember to close doors and because he was so badly neglected (and locked in the coal shed when they couldn't be bothered with him) i can't put him in a shed of any kind; the girls sleep with me and he sleeps with my granny- and we are both in the house all the ime so they are used to constant company so shedding any of them would be cruel! sorry, i know its a long story, but he'd really hurt bambi if he got hold of her and shes due to go into heat very soon!! thanks for reading! |

| Have you tried a belly band on him? Might work as a bit of a chastity belt, give you a physical barrier to prevent him from tying. |

You can certainly can look into belly bands. They may help, they certainly won't hurt. Unfortunately, even neutered males will be attracted to in tact females from time to time. Keeping them separated would certainly be the best option for all involved, but if that is not an option for you...

don't panic, he IS an amazing vet- he wasn't saying he'd actually do it- just to prove he had no ideas what-so-ever... that proceedure is for if the dog has a medical problem such as cancer or a serious injury with which the only other option would be euthanasia... i know i'm just being overly sentimental, but hes only recently started to trust everyone after what happened to him (he was also beaten and had his leg broken in 2 places and never set... he doesn't trust easily!) and i'm afraid that rehoming him would undo any trust in mankind that he was building up; but obviously if its that or byebye bambi, then i'd have to let him go

| I am not a breeder so I do not have any experience with breeding BUT have a question. How long has it been since he was neutered? Both my boys were neutered and it took about a month or more for the hormone levels to go down. Both my males were neutered together and a few weeks after I found one in the yard with a full erection! But that has not happened since and slowly went away with a little time.

| I know how you feel. My boy was neutered last August (the same week he came home) and he is my only dog, yet I am extremely familiar with Mr Peeper. Just me coming home is enough to get Mr Peeper to salute. It's really uncomfortable for me since I wasn't expecting a neutered male to be so um... capable. So I'm not surprised that your new boy actually locked, especially if it's soon after the neuter. He still has hormones inside of him driving this behavior. It seems like having your females spayed is out of the question, it sounds like you show. (I'm jealous!) Although it might hurt to separate from this wee one, it might in the very long run be for the best. I hope the belly bands help so you don't have to go down that route. Good luck!!

| yea, just when you think 'right that enough!! i've had it!!' they get out the puppy eyes and cuddle up to you, but then 5 mins laterthey do the exact same thing or something worse, but you can't shout at them because its not their fault, or those darn eyes do their magic again! are there even any tablets (herbal or non harmful) i could give the girls that would stop him from being so interested? i tried the sprays, but they do nothing exept make you hold your nose when hugging her!! |

| Not unusual at all. Never underestimate the powers of a woman. From time to time I sit a nuetered male....I took him over to my girlfriend's house....who also owns a yorkie female; spayed....well low and behold....what did we observe....the two of them doing the deed.....
