I hope you did obtain all tests for both. But, since I hail from Texas; Colleyville and moved here a couple of years ago, I'm very familiar with the costs of each of these tests. To have Cerfs done on each one is upward close to $200.00 the results being sent to the AKC. But, then your girl is not AKC. Bile Acids are $60.00. Exams on Eyes, Ears, Temp. Office visits for with a Specialists are no less than $50.00 + the cost of tests. So your are talking about a minimum of $500.00 per dog. I'm sure that you didn't make that much money in a short period of time, and I'm sure your parents covered the expense.

And as I said before. Not only did she come from this environment, she is being subjected to the same treatment. How sad...

Just because you are providing her with a wonderful home, and maybe had all the required tests on her. She is still not of breeding quality, and you are in fact a BYBer, just the fact you know nothing of her background. The tests you had performed on her, only tells you that she is clear of these possible diseases. They do not tell you if she is a carrier......But, then the stud owner told you that Miley's hips were wide enough for birthing.....

To me, this is not a problem of whether or not your old enough to be putting Miley through this. It's the fact that you're unprepared. Yes, there is a wealth of reading material on the web, and their are books, and videos and on and on. Reading and watching is not enough to make you ready for this. I think it's fair to compare a good, ethical breeder to a good doctor. A good doctor is taught by someone who knows. They learn by observing, by assisting and eventually by doing. Just because I have access to webmd and other medical sites does not make me qualified to self diagnose or self treat. You're simply not prepared. If you had a mentor that took you under his/her wing for a few years, taught you everything he/she knows, had you assist in whelps, told you what canine genetic classes to take, and on and on (because I simply don't know what this entails) and after you completed all of that, then yes, you are ready to breed. But not now, rushing into things can only put your little dog in danger. Your pretty much in a situation where you can only hope for the best but expect the very worst.
