Reputable Breeder - How do you choose? I have read over and over again that if you are looking for a new puppy that you should find a reputable breeder....my question is how does a person go about finding a reputable breeder. I am not asking for myself as I have found a reputable breeder by looking here on yorkie talk and will be adopting from Cloverhill Yorkhire Terriers...Susan. I did some research...she is a YT breeder, not listed in the USDA breeder list etc., etc. so I am confident that she is reputable. But, how do you check out a breeder not known on this site? I just read a recent thread posted by a member about a breeder/member selling rescue pups here on YT for a profit, but she refused to give out the breeders name. Thanks.

Here are a couple of good comparisons between reputable breeders and backyard breeders: Dog-Play: Use this guide to obtain a quality puppy from a responsible breeder Backyard Breeder vs Reputable Breeder You brought up a very good point. Breeders who advertise here are not screened or approved by YT in anyway. The only requirement for selling puppies here is that the puppies be at least 10 weeks old and if the seller wants to post a link to a website, that she be a donating member. A potential buyer should never assume that just because a puppy is advertised for sale here, its breeder is reputable. It is very important to carefully research any breeder you are considering. There are some great guidelines posted in the For Sale section: Yorkies For Sale or Wanted - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community

I have read all of the articles you posted and they were very helpful. I will ask the breeder more questions. Like I posted previously, she was recommended from a wonderful member from YT, shows her dogs and seems very reputable. She hasn't asked for references etc., but she does know that we own our home and have had a yorkie before. She has pictures of her previous litters on her website and they look beautiful. Wish me luck and thanks for all your advice I am truly grateful.
