Senior Yorkie Talker | Two puppies on X-Ray, Could there be more hiding? I took my yorkie to the Vet for an x-ray to see how many puppies she would be carrying, I thought to expect more than two, her belly just looks so big. She is due on or around February 14 I'm hoping that there are more hiding... I'm just afraid that if there are only two puppies then they would have more room to grow bigger and making it difficult for delivery, could this be true? |

| I have seen were x-rays aren't always right. Mine have always been right, but I also look at them with my vet and study real hard. My vet takes 2 so we can see both sides, and the whole belly. Do your lines usually produce bigger puppies?

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | My vet is always right on xrays so far. I always second guess him and say I can see another but he proves me wrong everytime. I have heard of people getting xray's and them being wrong though.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Xrays are best taken on or after day 58. What day is your girl on? Congrats on your upcoming little ones! |

Senior Yorkie Talker | This is all new to me and I'm getting a little nervous for her only having two puppies. Someone once told me that it's better for the mom to be carrying at least four puppies just so that the puppies won't have much room to get bigger making it easier for mom to deliver. Now I don't know how true this is, but my girl will be on day 61 on the 14th of February. Before the pregnancy she was 6 lbs and now she is 7.8 lbs the father of the puppies weights under 5 lbs, both grandfathers weight under 3lbs and grandmothers weight 6 lbs. She seems to be getting big on her belly and looks like she has more than two I just pray that they are not bigger than what she could handle. I will be bringing her back to the vet for another x-ray on the 13th to double check |

| the main concern is when they are only having 1 pup due to the chance that 1 pup can grow to be a good size since it does not have to share nutrients and room so it may be more difficult for the dam to deliver.

| Try listening with a stethoscope! My last litter vet told me he saw 3 but I kept hearing 4 heartbeats. Turned out I was right! |

| I have had two litters of 2. One litter was from a littler girl, just under 6 pounds, she did fine with her delivery, both pups in the 4 oz. range. A bigger girl, 7 1/2 pounds, well that was a different story. She had the two biggest pups I have ever had (my monster babies). We knew they would be big from the x-ray so if you repeat your x-ray just a few days before your girl is due the vet should have an idea whether or not your little girl should have any problems with the size factor. So many other factors determine whether or not a c-section is necessary, puppy size is not the only one. Puppy presentation and size of the mama's pelvic opening, strength of contractions, etc. the list goes on. Anyways, I don't want to scare you but I will tell you how big my monster puppies were, one was just over 8 oz. the other just over 9 oz. People tend not to believe me. Needless to say the mom did need a C-section, but she has become a legend in my vet clinic because the day before they helped deliver bearded collie pups that were actually smaller than hers. We always pull out her x-ray so we can compare whenever one of my other girls is expecting just so we can say "well these look nice and small." Anyways repeating the x-ray might be helpful to you. | My vet has always been right. THis last litter I thought that there had to be more than the 4 that we saw on the x-ray, because she was so big. She is right at 6 3/4 lbs - 7 lbs. not preg. and sure enought she has 4 puppies, but they were really big. 6 and 7 oz. Needless to say this will be her last litter, when these puppies are gone she will be spayed. It seems that with each litter that she had the puppies grew bigger. The first litter she had 4 and they were 4 and 5 oz., the second she had 3 5 and 6 oz. and this litter 6 and 7 oz. It was a hard delivery so don't want to take any changes with another litter. By the way congratulations on you new litter. Keep us posted. Can't wait to see new puppy pictures. Debbie |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I want to thank everyone for the information, I guess I'm nervous and excited at the same time but more nervous than anything right now. I made a box out of wood for her to have her puppies and now I am making the bottom bedding and bumpers to fit in the box...I tried adding new pictures but everytime I do it won't allow me for it's telling me that the picture is too big. |

Open you pictures with paint and resize them. That is how I get them smaller to be able to up load. There may be a easier way, but don't know it. This is how I do it anyway. Good luck | |
